Just saw this potentially worrying report over on the rte website

    http://www.rte.ie/arts/2007/0919/Jacksonm.html

I wonder, what exactly does the Luggala estate consist of? Does it, for example, cover the road down from Pier Gates to the base of Luggala, the deer park down towards Lough Dan or even Luggala itself? As far as I can see a large part of that land, although within the Wicklow NP boundaries, is still private land. Given MJ's well-known paranoid desire for security, this doesn't look like a good development.

EDIT: Playing about with OziExplorer and a map of the area, 350 acres is actually quite a small area, probably only the immediate area around the current Luggala Lodge. Still, I don't suppose he'd be too happy with someone sitting on the top of Luggala peering down with a pair of binoculars .. maybe he thinks it's more private than it really is?

I'd imagine it covers the whole valley down to lough dan. You're right, its not very private at all. Bad news too :(

I've just written an email to the Wicklow National Park HQ to see if they have any opinions or standpoint on this and to try and clarify where the boundaries are. I'll post any reply I get.

The more I think about this, the more I think how unsuitable luggala is for him. Lots of much more private estates in the area. I wonder is it true.

Here's their reply to my query, with names removed to protect the innocent/guilty ... don't know why they bothered really.
Thank you for your email enquiry.

Wicklow Mountains National Park is not aware of exact boundaries of
privately owned lands and is not involved in any third party property
    transactions.

Wicklow Mountains National Park, encompassing over 17,000ha of land in
the Wicklow Uplands, facilitates public access to National Park lands,
in line with our primary objective to encourage sustainable recreational
and educational use of the Park. For further information I refer you to
