I dont remember getting one of those, but if you get in touch with CSD, you can ring or email them, they should be able to sort you out. In fact, they're opposite the canteen, so you could even walk over if you are on campus :)

Yeah, you'll need to get the proxy address off them, that's what I needed to do to get IE and firefox to work.

    http://proxy.dcu.ie

    proxy.dcu.ie port:3128

or ya can use the automatic config script:
    http://proxy.dcu.ie/proxy.pac

Those are the proxy settings anyway...

What's the story with torrents? Are they blocked or is it that they are unblocked and just waiting for you to use them and give you a right bollicking for it?

Oh, bad news carlow boy, blocked blocked, and next to know way around it.

They block everything bar IE. It's a load of **** really

eh no they dont. Most of the gaming ports are open. Who the hell uses IE in this day and age?? If you have a valid reason for having a port open just mail them and ask. They can be quite co-operative if it's completely above board....

Firefox works..... and there are always ways around ;)

I knew they were against the rules in some way and I prefer that they're blocked than the other way tbh.

Just got my internet set up today. Any reason why MSN shouldn't be working?? Everything else seems fine.

Have you setup the proxy in Internet explorer and Firefox, cause the internet explorer settings are used by msn messenger.

Ah no, its only set up in Firefox. Hmm... I'll just use webmessenger so!

getting the internet in the rooms is tricky. you can't download anything. like, at all. it even messed up a few web pages when i tried to view them because of how strong their firewall is. but the connection is fast, so it sort of makes up for it i guess

It probably wont be *as* fast come next week when the whole campus returns and starts using it. But its still pretty good in fairness.

It was a bit bad for the first while but I haven't had any problems so far. Downloaded DivX player and it was motoring at 1mb/s. Sweet!:D

I dont see why you would bother paying for the net when ye can get if free (library etc). Of course some of ye may say "but what about the porn"....well what about a Zoo Magazine sufficing!

how much is the net anyway?
