I am reading with interest that Virgin Media are launching Virgin 1 on October 1 replacing Ftn. There is talk of Virgin one 'shaking up' free and multichannel Tv but does anyone know if its going to be FTA on satellite

Virgin 1, will be 'Free to View' on Satellite..............I think..........

'The new channel has also bought the later part of the Star Trek catalogue, so there will be a new, free-to-air home for the Captains Picard, Cisco, Janeway and Archer.

The channel will be 24 hours free-to-view on satellite and be provided to all Virgin Media pay TV homes, but will start out only as a 6pm-6am service on Freeview.'

This problem tends to crop up every time a free channel is launched the commentators etc. use the terms FTA and FTV interchangeably

Yes, and it is rather annoying.

I received a reply from a Virgin 1 representative in August who told me that the channel will be subscription on satellite as it is replacing Ftn.
    1. Virgin 1 will indeed be replacing Ftn
    2. Virgin 1 is free if you're a freeview viewer, but like Ftn at the moment, you'll need a Sky Subscription to get it via satellite.

So, in other words, "free to those who have a Sky subscription"

The term "free" is used a bit too loosely.
