We're celebrating a 22nd birthday and want to head away from dublin. Ideally no more than 3 hours drive/train. Can anyone make their recommendations?

So long as there's beer, and hopefully women we'll be happy! Cheap accomodation preferred!

    There's loads of places!

But Galway stands out since everynight of the week it's hopping i find as i go there to work the odd bit. There's other places as good but the pubs are always full enough evening on a mon/tues.

I have to be honest, i dont know why anyone would go for lads weekend in Ireland (bar N.I maybe) anymore. The likes of Glasgow, Liverpool and Newcastle are often only maybe a tenner more on the plane than going to Galway by train, and the savings will be made in the cheaper drink and accomadation prices, not to mention the birds will be more craic because you are irish (though they do like the accent out wesht too :) ). And also the later nightclub opening times. In short, im not sure id ever bother with a weekend away in this country again, and if i wee you id head across the wate instead. Nightlife wise, in terms of opening hours and the tunes played in most clubs Ireland is a pathetic place.

    Just my 2 cents....

You could try belfast. Its only 2 hours drive and the drink is pretty cheap. I have whent up there a few times for lads nights and we always had lots of crack. People in Belfast as also good fun so you are always guareenteeded to have a great time.

Previous posters came up with good places as well. Theres lots of places to go,
