    Hi,
I was wondering if someone could explain this to me or is it just a hard drive plugged into the ps3?
    Thanks

I just got a PS3 on saturday and i think what you talking about is the search for Media Server. I have a PC in my room connected to the net via wireless router and the ps3 in the living room also connecting wireless to the net via same router. If you have media player 11 you can share your music, videos and pictures with the ps3 so you can play them back through the tv.

I cant remember exactly how to do it as i checked it out online and found instructions, try googling Media Severs and PS3, i just know you have to go into tools on Win Media Player and chnage the sharing settings, also you need to make your local network to private instead of public.

I can now find all my music and pictures on my pc through the PS3, unfortunatly it wont play my divx and xvid movies, you need to convert them to mp4 format.......

    Hope that helps. :)

Do you reckon it's easier to use a portable hard drive and store your media this way or network? Obvously the other computer needs to be on for networking!

I use TVersity and have found it to be nothing short of brilliant. I have nearly 500GB's of Media on my PC so converting to a PS3 format was not gonna happen, but this just converts it on-the-fly and streams it to the PS3 in 720p, I can access all my media through the XMB.

Obviously the only downside is that the computer has to be active.

Yep, I like TVersity, save for the fact that you can't pause stuff on the PS3 if it's being transcoded.

I reckon I'll just convert my media to mpeg one of these days...

I can pause with TVersity so long as I resume within roughly 5min, restarting can take 4-5 seconds after I press "Start" though.

Any Mac OS X equivalent for TVersity?
