Well Chorus have decided to upgrade to their network in our area to enable us to recieve Chorus digital. I'm just wondering what their digital tv is like. Also I assume this upgrade will enable me to get their broadband service. Can anyone connfirm this. Does any one know what this is like? Do they enforce their download cap? Is it contended?

Digital TV doesn't automatically mean broadband availability unfortunately.

True. However with the amount UPC are spending on their network I would imagine that these days it most likely does.

Yeah I know but I don't really see the point of uprading the network just for digital tv and not for broadband. I hope Chorus would see it that way too.

    Hey there,

I've been looking through this forum trying to find others who are experiencing similar problems to me with Chorus digital, as such I can't stress enough that if you have the choice of switching providers, you should do it as soon as possible!

When I first ordered Chorus digital I was told of the availability of broadband... I ordered it, had 2 or 3 technicians call to my apartment before eventually discovering they couldn't pipe it through. So I can't offer much of an opinion on the quality of that service.

I can, however, tell you about the terribly bad television service I have received. There are many days when you receive no service at all, for example: yesterday at about 4pm Chorus shut itself off and has still not come back online. A week or two ago Chorus stopped working a couple of hours before the European qualifiers, so I had to tune RTE2 in with the rabbit ears.

The picture quality fluctuates constantly, the interface fails to respond and you are forced to switch the box off and on again a number of times. Individual channels stop working at random intervals adding to the frustration.

There is a distinct lack of customer service. I have spent hours (literally) waiting on the phone to speak to someone to no avail. I have received no response to any emails either.

I am living in Cork city by the way, so I suppose it's possible that service is better elsewhere, though I doubt it.

At this moment in time I am trying to get through so I can cancel my account, though, for the reasons pointed out above, this is proving quite difficult.

For about a fiver extra you can get sky. That's what I'm gonna do!
I'm using Eircom broadband, which is a bit more expensive but I've had it for a year and haven't had a single problem.

Picture quality was shocking in Cork city last night on Digital and, evidently late the night before, - I tried to record something on BBC4 for a mate but the signal was so broken up it was unwatchable.

The EPG was pretty banged up for a while weekend before last and then RTE Two being broadcast in 4:3, or whatever format it was, for the All Ireland was a disgrace.

That said, in my experience, Customer Service has improved quite a bit in the last year but that was from a pretty low base.

Where abouts in Cork city are you, if you don't mind me asking? I'm living near Victoria cross and had no service at all last night and still have none today. I ask because I'm wondering if I've been disconnected due to an angry-ish email and just haven't been told about it or if noone in my area has service..

I've found customer service to be okay when you get through to them, but I just can't seem to get through! Starting to worry about the phone bill for all this waiting now...

I'm in Shandon, I don't know how the signal was last night, as I didn't get home before midnight and didn't turn telly on then, but it was definately on this morning.

Have you tried resetting box; checking cables etc?

That depends on whether Chorus is supplying true cable (DVB-C) or MMDS (DVB-T). You can get broadband if you have the former, but not the latter.

Thanks for the help evilivor - Turns out there was a fault in the area that they were unaware of untill I eventually got through. It was fixed by 8pm last night, so although it was tough getting in contact with chorus, they did come through fairly quickly. They were also quite nice to deal with.
