    Hatton: ready for verbals
Ricky Hatton has told Floyd Mayweather his mind games won't work.

The Hitman is prepared to take everything the Pretty Boy can throw at him ahead of their five-date promotional tour ahead of their December 8th showdown in Las Vegas - live on Sky Box Office.

Mayweather is renowned for trash talking in the build-up to his fights and in his last outing had the experienced - and usually calm - Oscar de la Hoya seething.

The pair will promote their 'Undefeated' fight in Los Angeles, Mayweather's home town of Grand Rapids and New York before crossing the Atlantic for dates in Manchester and London.

And Hatton is confident of winning the psychological war long before a punch has been thrown.

"I think Floyd tries to intimidate his opponents at press conferences and weigh-ins," he told Sky Sports News.

    Reaction

"He tries to insult them and get under their skin, but anybody who knows me knows that when you throw insults at me, I have never been shy to laugh at myself.

"So when he doesn't get the reaction he's expecting, I think the mind games might just turn on him. I'm looking forward to it."

As for the fight itself, Hatton is just as confident.

Undefeated, Floyd Mayweather v Ricky Hatton, will be screened exclusively live on Sky Box Office on December 8. Full booking details will appear on skysports.com
Mayweather is undefeated in 38 fights, but the Mancunian believes he will never have come across anything like his own high-octane approach and in-your-face attitude.

"The two times he's come close to losing - the last time out against (Oscar) de la Hoya and the first time out against Jose Luis Castillo - are when people put pressure on him," he said.

"No-one puts the pressure on quite like I put the pressure on, so I think I've got a wonderful chance.

"The better the opponent, the better I've always been. I think the best Ricky Hatton will turn up on December 8. I can't wait."

It's all thrash talk, but to be honest, Mayweather IMO does not really sell. It was Oscar who SOLD their fight. Had it been any other fighter in with Mayweather, he wouldn't have got near as much and now he (Floyd) is riding on the back of that success. Hatton IMO is the reason the fight is generating all the interest. Mayweather may well be earning more, but should Hatton win, he will earn even more than Mayweather should he meet Cotto...

Floyd was never a big big seller because his style wasn't all that appealing.
    Oscar sold the fight

    Pretty Boy gets ugly
Ricky Hatton and Floyd Mayweather have embarked on their five-date, trans-Atlantic press tour. Sky Sports Ed Robinson is following them both sides of the pond for skysports.com. The first port of call was Universal Studios in Hollywood, where Mayweather took on the role of bad guy, and Ricky seemed to take it all in his stride...

Every great rivalry needs a good guy and a bad guy.

Here in Los Angeles Ricky Hatton and Floyd Mayweather let everyone know exactly what roles they wanted to play.

It was the outdoor presser to officially announce the fight, even though tickets had gone on sale an hour or two before it started. On sale and then sold out, three months in advance, in just half-an-hour!

Many of Hatton's army of followers will be disappointed, but the good news is that the mega match will be available at closed circuit venues in Las Vegas (as well as, of course, Sky Box Office back in the UK).

Thousands of Brits, who have already purchased advance flights, will converge onj the various hotels and make their presence felt all week. It will be incredible.

Ricky's also very popular with the American Hispanic communities, big followers of boxing, who love his macho attacking style.

Las Vegas might be Mayweather's home town but even with a restricted British contingent in the venue, the crowd will be firmly behind the underdog. And if the build-up continues as it's started, support for Hatton will only grow.

    A Galaxy far, far away
Read Ed Robinson's first blog from LA, where Ricky met up with David Beckham at the Home Depot Center.

We arrived at Universal Studios early to get our media accreditation. The press conference began with video clips on a big screen, then red carpet arrivals for the two protagonists.

    Outburst

The PA system was set up already but we intercepted Ricky in the Hard Rock Café and put a radio mic on him, just in case their was some banter away from the main stage.

Without that tiny microphone we'd have missed the story of the day, Mayweather's astonishing outburst during the head-to-head stare down.

These press conferences are often drawn out and rather corporate affairs, everyone thanking everyone, quite respectful.

Much of this one was the same but Mayweather did label Hatton a bum, a chump, renamed him Vicky Fatton and goaded him. Ricky took it all sportingly as he fanned himself in the California heat.

Then, when everyone had taken their turn on the podium, Mayweather stood on the podium and called Hatton up for the shot all the photographers had come for.

When Ricky stepped up the abuse started, all of which we had the good fortune to capture on tape. Much of it was unrepeatable - bullying and offensive. For nearly five minutes Floyd was right in Hatton's face as the Manchester hero took it, impassively chewing his gum.

The American looked taller, more athletic and pure pantomime villain. "I'll break your jaw, make a move you *****, you *****, you're a chump, you're too small."

    Intimidation

Eventually they were separated as Mayweather's manager pulled his man away, declaring Hatton 'scared'. Then Mayweather was back in Hatton's face with the intimidation tactics. I don't think it worked...

We spoke to Ricky straight afterwards and he wasn't impressed. You get the feeling that he's happy for Mayweather to underestimate him.

We fed our material and then checked into a new hotel, ready for an early flight to New York. The press tour continues in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Mayweather's hometown.

But without a private jet we can''t keep up with the boxers. No doubt Mayweather will step up the outrageous behaviour on home turf.

The end of the week will be fascinating, when it's Hatton's turn to be at home. Friday's Manchester presser, open to the public, after all the events of the weeks, could be something special!

Doesn't seem to have effected Hatton too much, doubt it would, but from the pic it does look a little worrying for him that Mayweather does look bigger
