My First Ever Live Game

Hey, so on Friday night i went to my first ever live rugby match (Munster -v- Viadana) on a whim (one of the buddies cousins was playing) and i must say i was well impressed..

I've never played rugby or anything, just watch it on tv and the first thing i noticed was the pitch looks waaayyy bigger on the telly compared to real life. It was interesting following the game from the sideline against the luxury of having the camera following the play on your behalf.

The one thing i was most impressed with was the crowd. It was nowhere near full, but still... Everyone was very relaxed, chatting & joking with people i don't know (which was fun) it seemed very child friendly (there were tons of kids just running about the place) and despite the fact that drink was available (and plenty were drinking their pints) there wasn't an ounce of trouble or bad feelings, i didn't even hear people question a ref's decision...

Is this indicative of what all rugby matches are like? I hope so...

Thats generally the feeling I've had at games at any level.

I'm sure Munster Heiniken Cup games are good craic as well.

I go to Connacht games regularly and yes, that is what you can expect. Far better than a soccer match, and much better atmosphere. Wouldn't say rugby fans never question a ref's decision tho :D that was possibly due to the fact it was a friendly and not an important match!

Heineken cup matches and the bigger magners league games you'll find plenty of people questioning the ref's decision though (its why i'm looking forward to leinster being back in teh RDS, i'm pretty sure the ref can actually hear you really well sometimes ;))

Rugby supporters are that kind of people though aren't they. Was at the SA vs. Ireland match last year in Landsdown Rd, and wore my colours as you do (Springbok jersey). Sat on the grandstand between thousands of Irish supporters... They gave me a hell of alot of stick to start of with (all in good spirit mind), but towards the end of the match all I got was sympathy...

    Needed it too..

You'd better... I have a few quid on the Springboks to win it! (And France, mind you... but at 15-1...)
