Who's going to win the Magner's league?

No. I didn't make a typo. This year, Leinster at least, will be playing in the
    Manger's League. That's as in

"Away in a Manger, no crib for his bed,
the little Lord Jesus looked up and he said:
"We hate Munster and we hate Munster
We hate Munster and we hate Munster
    ....and Athenry's in Galway anyway!"

    (only kidding lads)

    Back to being serious:
My season tickets arrived today. They come in book form this year and printed presumably in advance of the final schedules, the tickets are allocated to the various competitions in which Leinster will play. So three of the tickets are labelled Heineken 1, 2 and 3. And the remaining nine are labelled Mangers no 1 through to Mangers no 9.

Has the well known cider had a sudden rebrand in the wake of its lousy sales after this most unsummery of summers? Or did they just put some dyslexics in charge of their promotional material?

Or did somebody in Leinster branch fall down on his or her proof reading?

I would love to be a fly on the wall in the next sponsor's meeting between Leinster and the League's moneybags.

I think there were issues with the swipe cards last year, printed book tickets allow you to transfer tickets much easier.

With over 7000 season tickets sold, I'd much rather a fuller stadium than a personal swipe card.

Both Munster and Leinster have looked good in pre-season (from match/fan reports).

I'm liking the sound of this new league hopefully it will be as competitive as the magners league

Munster's signings have been good and should strengthen them considerably during the International windows. So at 10/1 I think they'd be worth a shot e/w.

Who's going to win the Magner's league?
    More importantly who cares?

Leinster probably, about time they won something.

    Loike that's so totally right.

Who gives a monkeys about a domestic competition in which you can watch local teams, comprising a mixture of some of the world's best players and young talent coming through to be nurtured close to home playing week in week out?

Far better to do like the real cool people do and spend saturday afternoons sitting on your fat ass in the pub or forking out a yearly subscription to Sky Sports to watch a bunch of multinational globalised **** pretending to have fractured their leg in six places every time a defender gets within sweating distance of them and appearing in Celebrity Cribs with their painted Wags showing off their loyalty cards to shops run by designers whose names they can't pronounce.

Yes, let's idolise some jumped up scrote who demands to be flown home by private jet at a cost of 100 Gs because his girlfriends not feeling well and playing the sympathy card by saying his granny has died. Twice.

Yup. Local competition. Who needs it? Let's get global people.

And don't  at me. Ever.

thanks Daveirl. I've calmed down now after my rant.

Actually, the main point of the OP was not so much who's going to win it but who screwed up the name of the main sponsor on the tickets. It really does say Mangers league (as opposed to Magners) on my tickets.

Can't believe I'm the only one.

Would have to back Munster to go all the way this season. Howlett is a hell of signing and ought to be brilliant.

Once they get their World Cup contingent back, Ulster could be in the reckoning and it is hard to ignore the end of season form the Welsh guys showed last season.

I hope I didn't actually upset you as much as it seems there. Wasn't expecting to be taken so seriously.

I love the Magner's league. It allows Leinster fans to believe their team is actually going somewhere when they get a bonus point win at home to an Edinburgh 2nd 15. I guess it has its place for sure.

Nice Trolling Marshy, it might be possible to squeeze some originality from you, instead of the feeble attempts to berate Leinster fans.

Who's going to win the Magner's league?
    The Cider industry?

    [/smartarse cynicism]

BTW did you mean to spell it "Who's going to win the Manger's league?"

Leinster Branch issued season ticket holders with a typo of 'mangers' instead of magners

    Munster,

Munster have made some good signings while Leinster have signed Jennings,Cullen and some SH players on their last legs.

    I'm going with Munster.

The Ospreys looked really impressive by the end of last year and they've made some very strong summer signings (Mike Philips etc). Certainly the biggest threat to the provinces.

Ive got a good feeling about Leinster though. Jennings and Cullen will both bring leadership to the pack, front row has been bolstered significantly and if Cillian Willis stays fit he'll make a world class scrumhalf. And then theres the backline...

Munster looking pretty strong too. Really looking forward to seeing Howlett and the revamped backline. Here's hoping tho they'll actually take the competition seriously this year - last few years the whole tournament was treated more like an obstacle to HC ambitions than something to be properly contested. Kinda degrades the whole competition.

Which was kinda the point of the original post.

I must be less subtle in future.

Munster have got to have the best chance of the Irish province, and have had an impressive pre season so far. They should have pretty much a first choice back line during the international breaks next season, and if the younger forwards can keep up their recent rate of progress then they should be a formidable outfit even when the established players are gone.

going by preseason games the munster 2nd string seem to be really doing well. So i reckon it will be Munster but of course i'm hoping for Leinster.

...not to mention Howlett... Or did I read something about him only in the EC?

Apparently he is contracted to the NZRFU untill the end of the year or something. While I must emphasize have not heard anything to suggest this, I would not be totally surprised if some sort of arrangement might be made to buy out the last few months of his contract after the RWC since there will be no S14 or internationals in those last few month. (Though perhaps some domestic NZ provencial games?)

After all in such a tough pool it is not beyond the bounds of possibility that there may not be any HEC games for Munster after christmas :(

Is there only going to be 9 teams in it this year? The 4 from here the 4 from Wales and 1 from Scotland (Glasgow) as the SRU are having difficulties with Edinburgh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,958 ✭✭✭✭RuggieBear

i'm pretty sure that edinburgh are back under the control of the SRU and are in the ML this year....minus nearly all their good players.
