Sniper Scopes

    Right-O lads, I need opinions.

i've been thinking about getting a sniper rifle for a while, but i've been kind of avoiding it due to the general theme of every newbie wanting to be a sniper, but right now it's either that or a shotgun, and i cant find the shotgun i really want yet, so im gonna order a sniper rifle.

Anyway, my question is, what's the maximum power scope you would use on an airsoft sniper rifle?

I really like the look of something like this:
    3x9_40mm_Rifle_ScopePPP.jpg

but the minimum power i can find on them is 3-9x, i'd like something that starts at 2x if possible because personally, i dont think stronger than 2x (maybe 3x sometimes) is necessary in airsoft.

2.5X magnification is all you need, and that's mainly for scouting/spotting.

1.5X - 2X is useful for medium/longer range shooting. Certainly makes it easier to tell if you've landed any hits.

By default, I leave mine at 2X and it works great. I don't care what people say...a scope is very useful in Airsoft.

i definitely agree, a scope can come in handy, but from a quick look around online, a lot of airsoft sites sell scopes that start at 3x magnification, which is just too powerful for an airsoft

anyone have any recommendations on sites for good airsoft scopes?

Something like that would be what id recommend, i got a 1.5 *32 power scope for my Aug[cant find the link its on ebay somewere] and its perfect on its lowest setting. That scope ya linked to is the exact one i had mounted on it at first and id agree with ya taht a lower power is much better.

    kd,

i got one of these...its illuminated, it comes with a front attachment to make it longer, and the safety front and rear covers are clear so they protect the scope from the wild bb shots....320136727037 on ebay...its black tho, its looks grey but isnt...

thanks guys, i like the look of both of those, also found this, i like the fact that it goes from 1.5-5x instead of 2x or 3x

Never used a scope, but just something I noticed on Saturday there, one of the lads had a red optic on his AEG, I don't know what gun or scope it was because he was about 50 metres away.
But what's my point, the sun was reflecting off the red lense and you could see him a mile away, everyone on the team knew where he was!

Just something to take into consideration.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,414 ✭✭✭kdouglas

aye, that can be a problem alright, but it depends on the scope in question, i use an open red dot sight on my p90, and im well aware the reflection can be seen quite far away, but if you can see the reflection, it means im likely about to shoot you :D

Kd why not chaqt to derek he actually does quite a lot of scopes .
For real steal mite be able to help you out

What gun are you getting? I found with the first scope on my g-spec was too small. It meant that the scope was very far foreward and I could not use it properly. If you want to use my g-spec on saturday your more than welcome. It has a 3-9 on it and I've no problems with it.

Aye, ill be over there tomorrow so ill see what he has, main problem seems to be getting something low-powered that looks like a proper sniper scope :D

I've a 3.5X scope on my g36. On saturday at HRTA one or two of the games had to lines of inforcements. I was at the front of one and afew lads directly ahead at the front of the another line where well defined @ 3.5x. As such I definitely do not think 3 x is too much for airsoft.

liamo: looking at getting the maruzen l96

Boston: that's all well and good, but could you actually hit your target at that range?

Thats the exact scope im using on my Aug now and im delighted with it. It wouldnt be as beefy looking as the 1st one ya mentioned however and mightened look as good on a bolt action.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,414 ✭✭✭kdouglas

yea, i like the big "this is a sniper scope" style scopes :D

any chance of a pic of how that looks on your aug?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,518 ✭✭✭[--SC(+)PE--]

Me sister has the camera unfortunetly, I havnt had a chance to show a single pic of me new look Aug yet :( if all goes well ya might see it on saturday in person.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,414 ✭✭✭kdouglas

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,518 ✭✭✭[--SC(+)PE--]

Cheers, I intend to go but i wont know 4 a few days.Alls i can realy tell ya is it suits me Aug but i feel it wouldnt look as good if i mounted it on me vsr or another boltaction. Works very well though ;)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17,163 ✭✭✭✭Boston

Well leaving aside the fact that the scope wasn't calibrated right, the sight was within my range. I'd put it at 75 meters.

    edit : http://www.wgcshop.com/pcart/shopper.php?itm=MOJ-SC-SL2630EL_srch_mojji
it sure doesnt look like an usual scope, but its not on an usual sniper replica either

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,414 ✭✭✭kdouglas

at $180 without p&p, i think ill pass, not something i want to end up getting broken by a stray bb :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17,163 ✭✭✭✭Boston

Erm, lasers are classed as firearm components here and wouldn't be legal to use with an airsoft rifle.

Kdouglas, Personally my biggest concern would be getting one you can look through comfortably with the goggles on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,414 ✭✭✭kdouglas

Boston: fair point, but id like something that looks cool too :D

since last saturday, i've started wearing wrap-around shades for outdoor anyway (rated for impact and tested at point blank with a gbb just incase ;)) so being able to look through a scope isn't too difficult with them on, even with my scott mask, it's not too difficult tbh

Just a little off topic put i'm about to order these wrap arounds, any opinion?

oops. completely forgot lasers arent legal here.

so to make things clear (dont want no trouble) my sniper, and the laser scope, are in france, and will remain there.

btw. on what kind of replica do you want to mount a scope ?

never really did much research into glasses tbh, but those ones look good, you also have the option of wearing them as goggles which is nice, the ones i use are these, got them in slovenia, my prescription sunglasses broke when i was on holiday and bought them instead, with the possibility of using them for airsoft when i got home

I bought a pair of them from ehobbyasia about a year ago. I don't know if they were clones or actual Guarder. They were being advertised as Guarder. Cost me about 30 or so. Used them once and never again. They fogged up in seconds. :(

Although! I was wearing them as googles with the strap on the back tight. Never thought of just not using the strap.

The foam bit/plastic bit its attached to as far as I know is for fitting prescription lenses.

They fogged on me even without that though. Might be an idea to try wearing them like glasses with a lose wire on the back to make sure you dont drop them. Get rid of the strap completely.

oops i had assumed the foam was for safety...

to be fair, they ain half bad sunglasses...the issue for me on saturday is we had 40 odd people attacking sometimes at right angles...so i wasnt going to chance a bb shaving the front off an eyeball...

i have done a little research on the googles KD was talking about

there are ones on wgcshop but are out of stock i think i am going to try...ess thermal ones
