Just thought I'd start a thread on the upcoming match between Brazil and Ireland at Croke Park, they'll probably lump it in with other games to finance the €500,000 it's going to cost to watch the Brazillians minus Ronaldo, Ronaldinho et all go through the motions.

Yea that's what happened in 2004.
Last time they were grouped with the Czech Rep. and Romania.
The Czech was a very good 2-1 win and the Romania game was the return of Roy Keane, much better games that watching the Brazilians, and not as cold too, Christ it was freezing that night.

BTW did you see the Indo article about this
    http://www.independent.ie/sport/soccer/croke-park-to--host-brazilians-1081721.html

Could they leave out the clinches like 'boys in green' and 'samba'

They better confirm it fairly quick, cos I can't see a full house for Cyprus next month.

To be fair, in 2004 it was a full strength Brazilian side and they didnt mess about with substitutions either.

    And try doubling their fee.

I get the feeling that fate will tease us and we will win this 3-0. Good result but utterly pointless considering its the end of our football for that year bar friendlies. Added to that it will give the FAI the excuse that Stan can fight it out with the best in the world, and its Stans army off to Africa 2010 here we go here we go

Actually scratch that, while we are on the subject when are the WC groups drawn? When are the first qualifiers?

Draw takes place on 25th November, 2007 in Durban, South Africa.

What a waste of time and money,

spend the 500k on a bloody manager would they?

I won't be watching Ireland play until Staunton is gone, arranging a friendly with Brazil when Irish soccer ebs to an all time low is disgusting.

They say they'll make €4 million from gate receipts, TV, etc.

This, I assume, is an effort to get the emphesis back onto us playing great teams and the nice romance etc of putting up a brave performance as underdogs to one of the worlds finest.

To actually benefit the team we should be organising a few away friendlies so we can try and get a little form and composure on the road. We are absolutely brutal away as this campaign has shown and yet nearly all our friendlies are home ones. I know we beat the Danes, but thats already seen as a blip. We should take a lesson from that and do it again, and again, and again. Our home form is always ok.

I dont know what i want from this game. I guess i'd just like to see Brazil actually come out and play and put in effort rather then have the lax attitude they usually do to friendlies. Id like to see what would happen to us against a team of class playing to their potential (though we may get to see that sooner rather then later against Germany..)

I'll just say this. I no longer am supporting the Irish team in any shape or form. Not until I hear that John Delaney is gone and Stan with him.

Yeah, I was considering the same. Don't think I can bring myself to do it, though.

Yeah totally agree, Ireland seem to play much more home friendlies than anything else, when really it's their away form that needs the most work.

Since i'm based in Portugal I don't know so much what's happening back home, any sign of Stan getting the boot yet and any sign of Delaney resigning or getting ousted. I've a feeling the answer is NO :(

I was at the match the last time we played brazil. I'm not making that mistake again. Still though, was nice to see Kaka play.

Didnt know this was coming up....but seems like an ideal opportunity to deprive the FAI of a few quid and avoid this match like the plague :D

If you are compelled to go and see Brazil then at least have the decency to bring a banner or a flag "Delaney Out" "Staunton Out" ..."FAI = Joke"

    Take your pick ;)

The Brazil game will be a sell-out without any problem. Has a date been set?

Even if it was a less big name coming, block bookers would be under pressure to go in order to keep their block booking.

The Cyprus game is already a sell-out.

That's because it lumped in with the Germany game.
