Big Holiday Problem

    Hi
I want to go on Holidays next month, but i can't get one of the days off and we have no flexibility on the dates. Basically they want me to sit and mind the phones, but we hardly ever get calls, as we are more of a proactive organisation.
I am thinking of going anyway, do you think going is a sackable offence?
I have no contract, but have worked here for 2 years. Also there are no disciplinary or any other staff related procedures,as it is a small company.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You don't have the right to pick when the holidays suits you but the company assigns them with their business in mind and with some considerations to your private life (basically 1 month notice in advance, have to give coherent days etc. etc.).

I would suggest that you route the calls to a mobile phone for that one day and/or that you get a sudden case of the 24h flu and find one of the "I give 3 day sick certs for 50 euro" doctors to back it up. It looks better then not showing up at all and it is unlikely that the company will bother with a fight over it (but you might be in a bit of uncomfortable situation over it afterwards). If you where out sick who would look after the place anyway?

    Thanks Nody
No one would cover if i was not around, already tried the route to mobile approach, plus i offered to work the half day, shot down.
Not sure about the sick note approach as they will know i am bull****ing, but will defo consider it.

WHat days/hours does your company work? Try the old "f**k load of overtime, 2 weekends in exchange for days off" jobbeh. May work, or see if anyone will swap shifts. Some places don't care about straight shift swaps "once the job is covered".

Going on holidays when you're not supposed to? Yep I think that would be a sackable offence.

Like, if you can't even do the basics, i.e. come into the office, I think your employer would have a very good case for getting rid of you.

Getting a sick note would prob cover you though.
