I don't understand his sponsorship myself tbh.
A quick look at his sharkscope stats and the mind boggles.

He did get a bit screwed here. This was a tournie with a $11 buy -in. he made about 80 bucks.

He's sponsored by Pokerstars. Just use the search for a team pokerstars player option and he's usually in a ton of MTTs and STTs and the odd cash game

It seems to me that a huge pre-requisite in attaining stars sponsorship like Elky or stevejpa is a big finish in a mainstream event. Elky's 2nd in EPT Copenhagen + his status in the pro-gaming industry (no idea myself but this is the pokerstars line i imagine) + the fact that he's a huge rake generator on stars, kinda makes sense in a few respects.

The mind-boggling thing about Elky is this: sharkscope has him down as a big loser in mtt, his profit in online mtt since '03 is estimated at 95k (over 4 years is pathetic really) and im informed by many high stakes cash game players that he is a pretty consistent loser in that discipline. In terms of talent or profit , stars coulda picked any number of people ahead of him , but im sure they have their reasons.

I don't see what's wrong with either of those hands but I have heard he is not very good.

Elky was one of the best HU players on Stars a couple of years ago. I'm not sure if that is still the case but he's definitely a HU specialist notwithstanding his huge multitabling sit n go behaviour. I think labeling him as a losing player is wide of the mark and I certainly wouldn't want to sit across from him HU at a cash table, and I used to play cash tables with him.

In fairness to him I have watched some of his Starcraft competitions and he is top Notch.

I also checked last night to see what he ws doing and he had as many as 8 tables open.

Elky's stats are skewered from playing basically 24/7 for god's knows how long to achieve supernova status.

The benefits of being supernova far exceed losing a couple of thousand in SNGs. He's been around for a long long time now, and thats pretty much half the battle.

For someone who plays as much as he does, he should be amazing by now. Clearly he isn't though.

I knocked him out of the Dublin EPT last year, I watched him fairly closely for an hour or so and was very surprised at how average he was.

Eventually when he got fairly short, he kept opening pots then folding to a reraise, he anted himself down to 3bbs before sticking it in.

He probably is very good though, he has been around a good while.

You might get the chance again, he qualified on stars last week through a satellite.

Barring a good run Im pretty sure this years EPT will be kicking off without me unfortunately.

Take down the headsup league and you're 1/5th of the way there! Get Hali to take another 2/5ths, sell 1/5th and put up 1/5th. Piece of p!ss Eoin!

It would not surprise me in the slightest if he has a share in Pokerstars.
