Inspired by the other thread, except i dont have the patience to do all those points! I'll just do my top 12 based on league and championship performances and this year. Brackets are what I would've rated them last year.

1 (1) - Kilkenny - No contest here. Far and away team of the year. Drawing with Dublin and losing League Final were the only blips in a near faultless year

2 (3) - Waterford - Being League and Munster champs sees them ahead of Limerick. Great tussles with Cork as usual too.

3 (7) - Limerick - Munster and AI finalists after no summer win for 6 year is a mean achievement! A poor league campaign set them back a bit though.

4 (2) - Cork - 3 defeats in one summer and semplegate highlighted a very poor year by their standards.

5 (5) - Tipperary - Signs of vast improvement after Cork win but contrasted with a hugely dissapointing defeat to Wexford.

6 (6) - Galway - Never got the wins when it mattered (Wexford in league, clare and KK in championship) But have potential.

7 (8) - Wexford - League and Championship semi finalists doesnt tell the full story. Not a huge improvement on last year.

8 (4) - Clare - fairly disasterous for them. Poor league, unresolved off pitch matters, and a horrible performance against Limerick. Win over Galway only bright spark.

9 (9) - Offaly - again nothing of note for them. Relegation to Division 2 is not what they needed though.

    10 (11) - Dublin
    - very encouraging league, but didnt show true potential in championship. It wouldve been a whole different story had they beaten Wexford in Leinster

    11 (10) - Antrim
    - nothing of note for them this year.

    12 (12) - Laois - ^^^

It would be more interesting to do it with the points, I am sure Wexford would be much higher ;) League and championship semi-finalists tells a story that Wexford should be higher, you have Tipperary and Galway ahead of them, Wexford beat them both this year. Having to play this Kilkenny team 4 times this year doesn't help

I think that is very accurate and a lot more accurate than the football one going around.

The Championship is where it matters

The Championship is where it matters

Well if that's the case then shouldn't Wexford be ahead of Cork, Galway and Tipp??

As for the rankings themselves, I feel that Galway have been lucky to be placed at number 6. I think they would have been lucky to be 7th or 8th as they had a sh1t year. The only matches of note that they won this year was against Limerick and Tipp in the league (which IMO was more down to the fact that they were miles fitter that either of these teams at the time).

As for the rest, I wouldn't think there is too much wrong with them as they reflect each counties season's....

Yeah maybe I could've put Wexford ahead of Galway. But Wexford overachieved this year. After all they were 2 points away from losing to Dublin in the Leinster final and they won against a very poor Tipp side in the last minute of the match.

So is this actually based on the results from this years league and championship, or your opinion? In the football they are using some sort of formula at least.

Ok I've done it the same way as the football but doubled the championship points and left the qualifier points the same. I also gave Antrim a qualifier win for the Ulster final.
    1 Kilkenny 158
    2 Waterford100
    3 Limerick 56
    4 Cork 48
    5 Wexford 44
    6 Tipperary 32
    7 Offaly 30
    8 Clare 22
    9 Galway 20
    10 Antrim 12
    11 Dublin 10
    12 Laois 0

Wexford should be higher up considering they beat Tipp, whereas Galway beat absolutely no one of any note.

Other then that pretty spot on.

I agree with most of the original ops ranking. However an adjustment I would make would be: Wexford deserve to be 5th, Tipp 6th, Galway 7th.

Wexford seem to do very well against everyone else, but unfortunately always seriously implode when playing the Cats. I think this paints a bad picture of them. They beat Tipp when it mattered in an AI QF, and that should be crucial when it comes to ranking.

So is this actually based on the results from this years league and championship, or your opinion? In the football they are using some sort of formula at least.

It is primarily statistics from league and championship and while Wexford did do well on those regards, they also have the statistic of being pulverised by Kilkenny in both competitions (twice!). Thats why I dropped them down a few.

Wexford are a shocking team. I saw them get trounced in the Leinster final and then scrape a win against a complacent tipp (in a very exciting match mind).

I would still put tipp ahead of wexford mainly cause they didn't lose any match by such margins which wexford did and they showed great fight in all matches where they thought they were going to face good oposition. Too bad they didn't turn up in the quarters, just thought they'd stroll through.

    Also it should be...
    1 - Kilkenny's starting team
    2 - Kilkenny's bench
    3 - Little McGarry

    Then the rest.

How can Waterford be in the top two?
When was the last time they were in an All Ireland final?

How can Waterford be in the top two?
When was the last time they were in an All Ireland final?

Because they are the second best team in Ireland?

When was the last time Dublin were in the Ireland all Ireland football final but who would doubt that they were the second best team this year.

    Note the words THIS YEAR.
