only if we get to watch musicals.

    HOLLA!

yeah musicals like "The sound of music" or "Marry Popins" would be pretty cool, we could braid our hair and gief each other makeovers

on a rather more serious note, it sounds like a good idea but im not sure if it would work out.

(DVD Licenses only cover you for your Home - you can re-transmit in Prisons, Schools (which are like prisons) and Oil Rigs, etc. etc. etc.)

I think maybe you should thoroughly investigate this properly before going ahead.

And by going ahead I mean discussing it on boards.ie and using it as a sign-up method and thus, potentionally leaving us open to some sort of legal action.

P.s. Whats the cover charge for? Might remove alot of complications if you, oh I dont know, dont charge? o_O
Good luck with it, in either case.

like i said earlier.....thanks for the support ivan, may we see your face at it? the charge is just to fund the society!

Indeed, but a €1 euro cover charge "with popcorn" opens a whole host of issues, such as holding books to demonstrate that no profits were made from the €1 cover charge.

Then, what happens if someone doesnt want popcorn? How do you factor that in?

Trust me, assuming its legal/possible at all, then you should consider having a seperate "popcorn fund", or better yet let a few people go in together for it, if they want it.

Just be very, very careful, I've seen people burned by this type of a situation, before.

im pretty sure he meant can't but forgot the 't' and he's right

edit: I'm a little pally, short and stout! Here is my hammer, here is my mount. Watch me get in trouble, scream and shout, Pop a bubble and hearthstone out.

    classic, i lol'd

its legal was done in the college before when i was in 1st and 2nd year. I helped run it for a good while with a lad from my course. We charge a £1 and got about 20-30 people at it each week.

As far as I remember and by remember, I vaguely remember through the mist that was my college years, that I asked the president of the "films society" what they showed and how they managed to get away with it". To which, the then president replied, by laughing and saying "we show divx rips, nobody seems to care and people turn up. Simple as."

Seriously, investigate thoroughly. Dont rely on heresay because should the "copyright squad" or equivalent come knocking on your door, pointing to boards.ie and saying "well woodyg said another society used to do it and he said it was legal" just wont cut it.

    IT IS ILLEGAL
The cinema club got stopped as Xtravision got it shut down, I believe. If you want to go ahead, I'd advise you to pop over to the Maynooth NUI forum, and get in touch with the film soc there. They show films, legally, which some of the public goto as well.
