Just bought a Sony RDR-HX750 and I've been told I can use it with the sky scheduler. It has guide plus on it but I cant seem to get it to work. Anyone any experience in getting this done??

select Eurosport on your sky box, select external source on your sony and leave it overnight, or try after a while.
May not work on some Sky boxes.

with the scart cable from your sky box connected to your tv, select eurosport and then select teletext (with your TV remote) if you can get teletext in this fashion it should work if you cant it wont. Have you selected the sky box as the source on the sony?

This does work!! Tried it again over a weekend and it worked! The TV Guide system is sh*te in my opinion, sorry I bought it cos it wont change channel to the sellected program for recording! I think I'll just invest in Sky +!

It will if it is all set up properly.

Have you connected the remote control emitter that came with your DVDR? It needs to be placed at the front of your sky box so the DVDR can change the channels.

You then need to set up the sky box to the correct scart input in the guide program settings.

The emiter is right in frot of the sky box, doesnt seem to make any difference. Assuming I got that to work, in order for the guide to update to I have to use the eurosport trick every night to get it to update?
I'll go through the setup again to make sure I havent missed anything!

Finally got it sorted had to leave it on Eurosport for 48 hours. How often do I have to tune into Eurosport and for how long each time?
Seems quite ok. Good alternative to SKY Plus.

If you have it set up correctly you don't have to manually tune Eurosport in at all. Each time it is due to recieve an update it will automatically change the sky box to 410 as long as the sky box is left on.

If the dvdr is left off it will take 2-3 updates every day. In the guideplus settings it gives the time and length of the next scheduled update, they are usually in the early hours and afternoons.

Obviously you only need it to catch one or two a week to keep some listings but the more recent it has download the longer ahead it will have listings for.

You should try out some recordings on numerous channels. If it doesn't have the correct numbers for each channel, particularly channels off the sky box it will not record correctly. Any that are incorrect can be manually changed in the channel set-up. BBC and channel 4 numbers may be wrong as they different on the UK and Irish sky systems.

I got mine to change the channel but it looks like the channel numbers are all wrong!
    Thought for the day:
I'm very tech savvy, very competent in IT and electronics and look at the grief I've had setting this piece of equipment up!! Its months since i've bought it! Can you imagine joe public buying this machine??? Theres not a hope in hell of them ever getting it working!! THere was no mention in the instruction's anywhere of the information i've got from you guys here!! (Much Appreciated!)
Just my two cents and a little bit of a rant! ;-)

I have to say i had very little hassle setting it up with help of the guys here and this thread :
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=52387133&postcount=6

My wife swapped around the bbc and rte no probs.

    2 questions

is it possible to move up the rte from last on the EPG to near top?

    can you tune in tv3?.

again, had i got this a year ago i would not have bothered with sky plus.

From what i know so far you can't watch one channel and record another from the EPG( so what- I hardly ever use this on sky+ anyway)
but you can record one channel and still play another from HDD. not to mention juke box, mp3 from HDD/CD/USB/ camcorder imput, pause live tv etc. Probably more features than i need. the RDR-HX750 is probably the best spent €330 this year and next!

    Regards.

My whole reason for buying it was to enable me to watch one while recording the other! Ah well!

HAve you been able to use an external USB drive with it? It keeps telling me that this function cannot be used now. Any ideas?

The whole pause live tv option doesnt seem to work either, "Cannot complete this operation now"

Pablo to be honest all we use it for is to record tv programmes when we are away. she uses it every day to record Away In home!. We recorded the toy shoy for her sisters kids and put it on DVD last Friday. Ill try the USB later and see how it works. If your USB is not working it may need a firmware upgrade. Ill check my version and get back.

Well I got the pause live tv thing working o.k.! THats one less thing I suppose!

As for the USB, The first drive I tried was my movie drive at 160gb and it didnt work, then I tried my portable drive at 40gb and it didnt work either! I then tried a pen drive at 1gb and it read the music files only!
    I suppose my question's are...
    1. Does it have a size limit on the USB drive option.
    2. Does it only read music format files?
    3. My "Movie" drive is filled with all types and formats or movies, is there any
way to be able to watch them on the Sony?
My naive thinking when purchasing this machine was that I could simply
plug all my movies in and watch them off the drive as I've seen other
    people do!

Many thanks for your help so far!!

Ooh! I thought when it said usb drive i thought it ment like small pen drive like 1or 4 gb. I don't know if it supports external usb HDD.

Any way my machine can read photos from usb pen drive but when in Jukebox it says "this function cannot be used now" mind you i dont think i had any music on it!.

Mime seems to have changed over to Eurosport automatically overnight so its uploading the new EPG automatically.

If it support reading from my external 500Gb hdd ill be surprised

Knowing my luck it probably doesnt! This units replaces the €80 DVD player that I bought in Lidl that read everything in every format and had every possible input and every possible output! It read media cards of all formats and I could plug any size Hard drive into it through USB! It was a fantastic little device!

is there any way of verifying what the maximum size drive that one could use?
Is the only way of accessing data on a memory stick through the jukebox? If I stored a movie on a pen drive would it read it? Sorry for all the questions!!

Plugged in my 500 GB external usb2 drive and guessed what happened......................Nothing. I take it that it only works with flash memory.

Thats a pain!! I guess I should have done a little more research before I purchased!
