Performance issues in WoW?

I'm sure I must be missing some obvious option, but I'm having serious performance issues in World of Warcraft on very low settings, something that seems absurd from a laptop as powerful as a 2.4 GHZ C2D, 8600mGT Macbook Pro. I have the battery/power settings set to better performance, which I presume would unlock the full power of the laptop. Unless that means best battery performance... but with another setting labelled better energy savings I find that unlikely. So please can someone shed some light on this? Apologies if this is a spectacularly easily solvable problem but I'm completely new to Macs :)

Ok, what OS are you running WOW on ? Not as silly a question as you might expect. If you're using MacOS then there does seem to be something no right. If on the other hand you are using Windows XP running in VM or Parallels or Fusion then the answer is that these emulators don't get full access to the graphics chip in the Mac and make do with a driver that's usable mainly for 2D apps. If you are running Windows then consider using BootCamp from Apple which gives windows access to all the Macs advanced features.

I've heard that windows through bootcamp runs WoW better than the OS X version of WoW.

Hmm, yeah I'm running it on Mac OSX, but I'm hoping if there are performance issues with that it's only related to the recent patch and will be fixed. I read on the official forum that a number of people are experiencing my problem, unexplainable huge frame rate drops. It's weird and annoying, but I still love this laptop :D Had my first play with iPhoto yesterday!

But yes, I fervently hope they fix this problem...

Have you got iLife 08 ? What's iMovie like or have you tried it you ?

Just out of interest, have you read these reviews of WoW on different Macs. There are several comments from MacBook Pro owners regarding performance issues and a possible fix by switching on the internal fans. Have a look if you haven't already seen it.
