    That depends..

Are you visiting, or are you from athlone?

Who are you trying to romance.. male / female?

    Whats the budget?

I'm visiting Athlone, I'll be romancing a female and I don't think she'd be too impressed if I didn't splash out a bit! (I've had some romantic encounters in Supermacs but I doubt it'll do the job this time)

ok, my son, look and learn.

Take her to dinner first. There are tonnes of places to eat in athlone.

Starting at the budget spot pizza momma , sometimes referred to as cafe momma, its oppsite the cop shop and is great value for money and u can bring ur own booze to it for a 2 euro cork fee.

The other options are hatters or the olive grove very busy and nice too, there is Kin KAO is thai and very nice also. Id go to either of these if you want to impress food and location wise.

There are some pubs you can go later for a drink, Gerties is beside hatters and the olive grove, you have river s beside the shannon but its a bit clubby,, seans has a beer garden and if you get in early u get a nice seat there, but it gets busy.

If the club scene is your thing, the best option is Karma.

    AVOID BOZOS AT ALL COST

If you need a place to stay there are many hotels near to book into. She can stay at my house. I will be shure to safisfy :p

Hope this is of some help...

Snyper, you say to avoid bozos but you recommend river s?? have you been in there recently, is it even open still??? Olive grove bought it out..... far as I heard last time I was in Athlone. anyhoo thats off the point....

For romance food wise in Athlone, odd and all as it sounds, I recommend the Olive Grove, or Hatters for a nice meal, if you have a car there is a lovely new resteraunt in Mount Temple called the Motte and Bailey..... or else Wineport in Glasson, and its very nice out around there, you can drive to Portlick Castle, lots of lovely views etc. There is a nice spa in Hodson bay, for nice treatments, some pampering?? you could go on the viking cruise also? its just really a trip on a boat, but its interesting enough..... athlone is a bit kippy in the town, but the outskirts has lovely country side and nice views and walks etc. def glasson, ballykeeran area. anyhoo thats my input hope it helps

Mount Temple is a nice village, we have a house there but its a waste of time driving 12 miles just for an ok dinner.

The Wineport is financial rape. Nice location if you want to pay thru the plug hole for it.

Yes, perhaps you are correct on River S, its just depending on the night of the week, it can be nice for a drink if its quiet (which it always is) after hatters. It is still open alright but changed hands.. But yea, i suppose actually you'd prob even be better going down to the bar in the Radisson for a quiet drink after the meal than river s.

Id not bother leaving town for dinner, i insist on wine with my dinner so that rules out driving.

Yes, Hudson Bay is nice, and certainly Portlick, actually portlick is an excellenmt place to go for a romantic walk before dinner - during the day if the weather is nice.. nice forest and lake views.. good choice... id def recomment it.
