No sound from iPod

I'm not getting any sound out of my 20gb iPod Photo. I've had it for around 2 years and since yesterday, whenever I play a song, theres no sound. The volume is on and even up full theres nothing. I've tried other headphones but it's the same. I'm thinking it's the sound jack thats fecked but not sure. If I try to restore it, that will erase my music yes?

Does anyone know what could be wrong? Thanks

If it's the sound jack, then a restore won't fix anything. Also, yes, restore erases all music & pics.
Don't feel bad; I had a broken jack on my 5G after only 6months! It's simply an issue of wear-and-tear.

    Have you any dock-connector speakers?

Yep and the sound comes through on that but not with headphones:(

Then you are right in thinking it is the jack if the sound is coming out from the dock connection. Sorry :( Ah well, excuse to treat yourself to a new one!

There's a company called ISS on Camden Street which might be able to repair it reasonably for you. I'll try and dig up some info on it

    conor108,

My nephew had the same problem on his 30GB video.

He bought one of the headphone sets with the in-line remote in xtravision(€50 or so).

It works from the dock connector so he was back in business with that.

By the way, SDooM, do you get paid every-time someone clicks on the link in your sig ?

O.P. you can buy replacement parts. They're widely available if you search google (was that 2 verbs in a row there . . tut tut !). Here's one I found. Also here's a tutorial video on how to do it.
