I recently got a new job(part-time), i started on wednesday and got on grand and I was in yesterday as well and now I really like the job, but, on Wednesday I was told my hours for the days ahead which were Friday 2-6 and then Sunday 12-3.

This morning at around 11:20 my job rang me and told me that I was supposed to be in at 11-3 TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!! But I was totally unaware of it altogether, I told my supervisor that one of the other supervisors told me my hours the other day and that I was totally unaware that I was supposed to be in today, she told me to check in future etc.

But my worry is this, the start of your contract there is a 3 month period where you have to do well to be kept on fully and I'm wondering now that because of this ill be fuc-ked altogether and when I go in tomorrow then will say "bye-bye".

Am I looking into it too much?

P.S It should also be noted that I did of course apologize and explain the situation from my point of view.

I think they'll let it go...you're new and still learning the ropes.

If it doesn't happen in future you should be okay

Had something similar happen to me before. My hours were changed but I wasn't told, so I got the call saying "why aren't you in work blah blah". I just explained what happened and all was well.

Forget about it, everyone makes mistakes. As long as you don't make a habit of it, you're grand.

Cheers lads, I hope your right anyway and I do have a tendency to over worry about things, its just that I only got the job and I just returned from the states and I wanted to get a job ASAP so it seemed like it was too good to be true etc.

Ill apologize again when I go in tomorrow and explain what happened again etc.

    Fingers crossed.

Apologize for what OP? You did nothing wrong.
Your managers and supervisors are paid far more than you as it's their responsibility to manage staff.

If you followed the first supervisors instructions then it's them who should get the bollocking by management if the place was understaffed today.

    Have some pride man!

Exactly. Always apologise if there is something to apologise but you shouldn't kiss ar5e for the sake of it. If you explain what happened then I think it wil be clear to anyone that you were not to blame.

If you really want to apologise then make clear you are sorry for any inconvenience caused and but that you are not sorry for your actions as you only did as you were instructed by another supervisor.

Tbh if the op wants to keep the job, I'd wait the three months before getting stroppy in any way.

Yeah... I don't understand the apology bit either.

To me that would sound like you did know you were to come in on the Saturday and that's why your apologising.

True, it's just not worth the hassle sometimes, and you could piss off the one who gave you the wrong hours.

I'd explain the situation again if needs be, but I wouldn't say sorry as it would imply you may have know you were meant to be in as monkeyfudge said.
It was a mistake on behalf of that person, not your fault.

I tend to over worry about these things too!

I'd just go in and prove myself as a good employee...they'll know soon enough if you're a messer or not.

Ah I wont be getting stroppy at all but I would like to say sorry for the inconvenience that I may have caused, it would have been only my third day in the job as well, I quite like this job so I wouldn't mind keeping it so I want to come across as sincere about this as possible because I genuinely am sorry and was totally shocked when they rang me today.

Aye third day only and has already been said here, stuff of that nature is going to happen in a new job. I'd ask for your hours on paper. That way there's no confusion.

Ill make sure in future what hours im in, I clearly remember that my supervisor said that im in on Sunday 12-3 and then she asked could I come in on Friday as well, there was nothing mentioned about Saturday, Ill make it my business to check the roster ALL THE TIME from now on, I can kind of see that they will just put you down to work without asking first and then its up to you to check but I though I had all my hours told to me mainly because its still my first week.

    Quit now.
My younger brother was in a job where they said he had to work X hours, and he'd find out a day later that they'd changed it without telling him to Y, or one supervisor would ask him to do X hours on X day, yet he'd arrive in and another supervisor had either changed the hours for the day, or changed to roster altogether. Yet, if you want to change the hours yourself, you've to give them two weeks notice. This from a relatively big clothes store is complete BS and it's no wonder these places that work off shift-rotations have such high staff turnovers.

    Quit in style though.
