    Hi all,

I have a motorised Technomate 1500CI+ Super and I'd like to know if it is possible to connect a SKY box to it and take out a sub to a few of the mixes without the need for another dish and connection to a phone line.

    All the best,

    Brian h

you can connect the Sky box to the IF loop through an the Technomate, you can pay sky a one off fee of 37.50 not to have a phone line connected.

    Thanks for that Conax.

Would a used box be good enough (if I could get one) or do SKY supply one anyway if I subscribe ?

Sky supply one . You should really consider a separate dish though to give you better viewing choice

    Tony,

Am I allowed to install it myself if it's just a loop through job and everything else is in place ?

I'd imagine the sky installer will be delighted with your set up as he will have little to do and still get paid little though that payment is

    Its up to you,
if you have or can get an old Sky Box, you can phone Sky direct and just get application and the card sent out to you. you can install this yourself with your existing system and there is no need to pay for or use a phone line with this method.

the good points are you can install it yourself, no phone line
bad points are you have no guarantee with the Sky box, having said that though they are "cheap as Chips" now anyway.

    Thanks for those replies lads.

Maybe the new box is the best option. If I were to get a used one, would I still have to pay the €37.50 no-phone-line fee ?

No, you wouldn't have to pay the €37.50 when you own the box yourself.

I had a quick look around ebay just to get an idea of prices of used boxes and there are quite a few different models available such as Pace, Grundig, Amstrad, Thompson etc.

Any advice on the best one to go for and where to buy, preferably in Ireland.

The newer Pace (avoid 2200/2500 series) and Thomson boxes seem OK. I'd avoid Amstrad though.

If you're buying second hand, maybe check out Buy And Sell, Adverts.ie or local classifieds paper. And indeed eBay, though check postage costs to Ireland first!

    Thanks Byte.

Are there any issues with using an ex UK box with an Irish card ?
