House game-etiquette

    Hi,
I was at a game in a friends house last weekend, 7 of us bought in for e30 each. Two guys arrived two hours late, fair enough, we allowed buy backs for the initial buy in price, one guy bought back in twice, at 3:30am there were still 6 of us in the game, at this stage some of the guys cashed out, that is they cashed in their e30 of chips and a third guy who had bought back in twice cashed in for the tune of e100 and left, he was one of the two who arrived late. I'm a beginner at poker so I was unsure as to what etiquette or even rules apply here. tbh i felt that if your in your in and thats it, what are the general rules here?, thanks, I lost in the end, :(,

PSHow long would an average game last like this, we had 10, and 20 cent binds which doubled from 2 hours after the start every hour or so?

you should agree before the game starts. generally either the chips have a given cash value so it is just like playing with cash and you can come and go at any time, or you play until one person has all the chips and he gets to keep all the cash.

why not play a tournament with a structure that allows a bit of play and set a sensable payout structure. That way nobody can leave untill they are knocked out. In my experience small stakes home cash games are a nightmare.
