I knew it was Whitaker before I even clicked on the link. Yes, his defense was amazing. The greatest of all time.

The thing about Pea was that he also made you pay when you missed. He turned his amazing defense into offense. He also made defensive fighting look ridiculously easy and enjoyable to watch. He was that calm and collected under pressure, it was a JOY to watch....

For all his talent he really lacked a punch and usually had
to go all the way and earn his victories. It's the hardest
trait in boxing, fighting so successfully on the backfoot.

Against Nelson, he was facing a Feather/superfeather and still
he lacked the power. You would think Nelson was the natural
Lightweight...

Totally agree that he was the best defensive fighter ever - and that includes Willie Pep !

I also think he was one of the very best boxers pound for pound - and that's coming from someone who cheered against him every time I ever watched him.

Walshb mentioned the Nelson fight. That's where Whitaker made a Hall of Fame fighter look like an amateur for 12 consecutive rounds despite not having a big punch. For me that's why I rate him so highly. He beat so many fantastic fighters (IMO he beat De la Hoya when way past his best) and beat virtually all of them handily.

Genius.

Actually, I think that guy who I assumed got KO'd, actually got
