hiberfil.sys on my C: drives is using 3.4 gigs, I assume it would be used if the pc went into hibernation, I never use hibernation and I would like that space back, anyone know how to free it up ?

Is Hibernation enabled? If so turn it off in the Power Options in Control Panel and restart.

Hey guys I have the opposite problem.

I did a disc clean and deleted hiberfil.sys

I tried the command solution, but it didn't work.

I run vista so I was considering buying a windows vista restore disc to solve the problem. Do you guys think this will work.
I use the hibernation and sleep functions all the time.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

What exactly is the opposite problem to "I want to recover the memory taken up by hiberfil.sys"? Because as it stands, quite aside from being a prime demonstration of necrothreadage, I don't think your question makes sense.

I'd suggest starting a new thread, detailing:
    • What version of Vista you're running,
    • What problem you're experiencing, including symptoms and if at all possible the error message you're seeing,
    • What you've done to try and fix it, along with the results.

That should be enough information for us to help point you in the right direction.

    powercfg -h on

    ???

Run it from an admin command prompt.
