Just wondering about this - when the likes of McCallister, Gear, haymans etc etc come to play in the english premiership next season, will they still represent there respective nation or do countries like New Zealand only field players playing in their national competitions?

They way ALL SH policies go on playing oversee's is that once you end your contract with the Union you are therefore non eligible to play for them so yes you wont ever seen Gear, Haymans Gregan, Larkham in SH shirts again

no way thats a joke - especially if you consider McCallister is only 24 and a few others are in their prime as well

Well he'll obviously go back in a few years and become elligible again, Percy went back to Natal after his stint in Wales and Skinstad has done the same.

Im afraid thats their policy mate though it does make sense as they want to keep the players at home rather them being bought overseas and then have the nightmare of trying to manage x amount of players scattered through Europe would just be a nightmare

thats true - spend about 3 years over here and go back in time for the built up to the next world cup - tri-nations etc

true, on average, roughly how much more money will the likes of McCallister and Gear make over here?

You d be EXTREMELY lucky to pull that off and your forgetting that you would have to resign a new contract with the Union and 3/4 of the time they dont want to go near players that have jumped over sea's

Havent a clue id give a guess and say 80,00 maybe less but then again the club tends to provide houseing and car etc Just look back to 1995 when we went pro and the offers Irish players made with English Clubs was insane 50,00 plus accommodation and a car??? crazy. Remember this isnt soccer unless you have incredibly good looks and go down well with marketing your not going to be well off. Most players will have degree's behind them so that when their time runs out they do have some place to go

thats true, the likes of new zealand seem to have a conveyer belt of new talent coming through every year so i suppose they will have no hassle replacing them

Well I'd say they're probably looking at close to a million over 3/4 years, really looking forward to seeing Van Niekirk pity he'll be playing in division 1 for Harlequins for a year.
