Hi, onto door research at the moment and just wondering if anyone has been spending a bit more and taking the pre-finished doors?
are they worth it? value & time saving?
    or
do you just sand and 3 coats of varnish yourself?

have 13 full doors and 7 with glass panels.

Fitting the assembly into the house is much quicker than fitting the frame, cutting out the hinges etc.

The doors I used were prevarnished but the frames were not, a little bit of extra work but not too much.

One thing I will say is that even though the doors were pre-varnished before being factory fitted into the frame, you still need to varnish around the edges where they were trimmed during assembly.

Would I used them again?. Yes.

the one advantage that any prefinish on doors has is that it avoids the greasy fingerprints that occur when fitting.

If they come in the frames etc ready for fitting: there is a tendency to perhaps leave them insitu and in effect have them hanging at a much early stage of the build than normal: hence exposing them to the risk of damage.

In passing we got our custom made beech panelled doors factory sprayed: beautiful finish, much better than what I could achieve with a brush.
