I had never heard of this show until I saw this thread and I must admit I'm impressed. I have no idea what the name is for this type of comedy but for me it works !

Are the episodes always this "whacky" ?

They tend to be pretty "whacky" but "intelligent whacky"

The first two seasons are available on Region 1 DVD for about 25 euros. Really can't recommend them enough.

They tend to deal with topics that other comedies wouldn't touch like
cancer, molestation, under-age drinking, abortion etc

Last night was a great return.. first two episodes were both very funny. More hit and miss than Sunny used to be but definitely enough last out loud moments. The closing image on the first episode
of them standing over the baby with the sword screaming while child services enter the bar was absolutely hilarious.

And Charlie as the green man! :D

Definitely gonna watch them again later as i think they deserved a re-watch as i watched them quite late last night.

I just remembered my favourite bit of the first episode..

When Charlie and Frank are rooting through the dumpster and Charlie finds the stereo:

"We'll put a plastic bag over this... shower radio!"

    Loved that..! :D

Yeah I liked that bit too! I enjoyed both of the episodes and there were certainly laugh out loud moments, but I didn`t think they were amongst the best episodes that I have seen. Still a decent start to the new season!

Congrats on the new 360 btw basquille (I saw your post in the Xbox forum!) Soon you will be too busy trying to climb skyscrapers in Crackdown hunting for agility orbs to watch all of this television!!:D

Yeah, it's not Sunny at it's best but still some of the funniest comedy on TV right now.

I know... i'll be too immersed in Crackdown or Gears Of War and will have to catch up on a week of TV in one night probably! :D

Only watched the latest 2 tonight... Both were absolutely hilarious. probably funnier than the first two of the season.

    - The dick flyer: "if it you wanted it to look like a bicep, you should have put more veins on it"

    - And the lads making up the flyer: "what up? Have fun with three guys at The Party Mansion. Nothing sexual. Fat guys will find humour in the little things. Again, nothing sexual (underlined)! Let's get some men!"

    Second episode was great too:

    - "She's a deaf mute.. she only raised her hand because you did. I wonder what else we can make her do - BLINK REALLY FAST!"
    - The Die Hard hostage situation was hilarious. Especially Ryan McPoyle falling to his "death". "BROOOOOOOTTTHHHHHEEEEEEEERRRRR.... NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Think i may have gotten a bruise on my heel!"

    :D

As a big fan of the 'Die Hard' series, I thought setting deVito up as McClaine was brilliant - going through the ventilation shafts was good but when they were on the rooftop, all laughing, and the camera pans back to the gun sellotaped to his back... :D

They new episodes have been great overall but I'm still not 100% convinced deVito fits as a regular cast member. They seem to be pairing him up with Charlie a lot and upping the wacky quota.

I'm all for surreal or odd but when things start to become "wacky" it's always worrying.

Still one of the finest comedys on air though. And still nobody has heard of it!

Actually having thought about it, there are many examples of great Frank moments that mute my point
The "AIDS!!!" bit in episode 3
    being just one

deVito's character doesn't really add much to the show, I'd have preferred seeing him in the occasional appearance rather than as a permanent character.

The show is certainly getting more daft and isn't nearly as good as the first series.

I thought 1 and 2 of these season were a lot better than 3 and 4. The last two were actually a bit disappointing -- though, for shame, I didn't get the Die Hard references.

DiVito on acid in episode 2 was utterly brilliant, though.

Season's one and two are repeated on Channel 6 at 20:30 tonight.
You must check it out if you haven't seen it already.

Epidsode 3 of this season was probably the funiest 30 minutes of comedy I have ever seen. Genius so it was.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,348 ✭✭✭Double C

The second episode today is just incredible, I was laughing the whole way through, even moreso ythan normal!! I've gone through my phase of loving Charlie and loving Mac but Dennis is the man right now!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,200 ✭✭✭✭Basq

Have to agree with Double C. Dennis has been on fire recently. His scenes last week with the McPoyle sister were hilarious... "that was hot... sweaty.. and milky!" :D

He was great this week in both episodes but a show stealer in the first episode with getting in a camp performance. He put in an awkwardness to the role which (up until now) Ricky Gervais could only carry off. Top notch stuff!

First episode was very good. Highlights from the first episode include:

    - Dennis's sketches and Charlie "scratching himself fast and vigorously" to them! :D
    - The sweat shop and Charlie's moment as a dog awaiting a treat.
    - Dennis. If just for his scene with the model ("suck in that gut!") and the mirror scene which may go down as the oddest thing i've seen in 'It's Always Sunny' so far. It was... well, out there!
    - Oh.. and the nice reference to a past episode with Dennis praising himself in the mirror to Rick Astley's 'Never Gonna Give You Up'. People may remember him singing it while driving a car last series.

Second episode was probably the finest 'It's Always Sunny' episode i think i have ever seen. Absolute gold from start to finish!

    - The duster... absolutely hilarious!
    - "We need something sweeter. Go downstairs and get me the anti-freeze!"
    - "You see that door? The one marked pirate? You think a pirate lives there?" Honestly.. if i laughed any harder, a little bit of wee would have came out. (too much information i know!)
    - "What is that.. your apartment key? That's not gonna work. Why not? Cos we're not at your apartment ****head!"
    - And at the talent show.. as soon as we saw Mac sitting back in the black shirt (Simon Cowell) and heard Dee slurred drunken chatter (Paula Abdul), i though there's no way they can get DeVito to act like Randy Jackson. And then all of a sudden, DeVito comes out with "It just wasn't happening for me dogg!" Ha ha! :D
    - "Alright.. she's bombing, blast her!"

First episode was very funny.. second episode was the stuff of comedy legend.

PS - did anyone else notice Fred Savage has directed a lot of episodes so far this season? Yes.. the same Fred Savage from 'The Wonder Years' and all those forgettable films of our childhood ('Little Monsters' anyone? 'The Wizard'? 'The Princess Bride'? OK, the last one was not so forgettable!)

Just a heads up.. the episode due to air tomorrow night in the States is the one i posted a thread about a month or so back - the episode which aired on their MySpace in which
Mac is made out to be a serial killer
    .

What did you think of the latest episode Basquey? I thought "Night Man" was a work of genius :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,200 ✭✭✭✭Basq

'Night Man' was an absolute classic!

The episode itself was hilarious... the "retarded person" storyline started off very funny but as soon as we got 'Night Man', the episode was all about the Battle Of The Bands - Dennis and his spandex! :D

But couldn't finish this post without appending this:

"It sounds like a song where a man breaks into your room and rapes you!"

Best bit of comedy genius in a long time. I loved the previous episode as well when Denis was talking about Bears and Twinks.
