New Build Lighting system

I went to the self build show and I looked at the Clipsal C-Bus lighting system, I was interested in some of the features i.e. the ability to turn off all lights by pressing one button from your bed or as you leave the house.

I got a quote from a reseller in Carlow for a system which includes the following:

And this is just for lighting for some of the rooms: power circuits and sockets extra.

take a look at using x10 gear and designing your own system. older technology but way cheaper. You can do some fairly impressive stuff if you set it up for computer control.
www.letsautomate.com pops to mind first but do a google on x10.

You can check the prices for this stuff by looking at www.cbus-shop.com - thats one way to compare. Why are you being charged a commissoning free - If he wants to sell you something then its his job to get it working. Charging a separate fee is not something I would entertain. Also check that you are not over doing the dimmers. Each 2A dimmer has a max load of 450W - just add up whats on each circuit and see if you need all this.

I am just about to get something like this - looking at Clipsal and Lutron.
