Rural Services Ireland...a joke??!

Has anyone else out there any experience of a company calling themselves Rural services ireland? As we live in a hilly rural area in Donegal which will be still waiting in 10 years, probably, for broadband, we decided that Satellite was the only alternative. We are currently on a snail speed dial-up as we are on a carrier line which Eircom have no intention of upgrading!
Anyway, we signed up with Rural Services Ireland on July 26th, hoping that we would have our Skydsl service,(which is the one provided by RSI) installed and running within the 14 working days, which their website promised. We paid €247.80 in advance for this product and so far...8 weeks later, we are still waiting. The satellite dish and equipment did arrive about 3 weeks ago and an installer was supposed to be assigned to set it up on receipt of the hardware. Despite numerous calls and emails to the director of this set-up nothing, as yet has happened. We have been promised 'faithfully' by their local installer 5 times this week, that he'd be out that day/evening to install the equipment. When he did'nt turn up we phoned him and on each occasion were told that he had a van breakdown...for 3 days, but that he'd be definately out that day. still no sign...or sound, from him.
At this stage we just want a refund of the amount paid upon which we will return the equipment and forget about it. RSI seem to be a totally unprofessional set-up and I would'nt recommend them to anyone after this experience.
Is there any governing body in this country which monitors companies such as these, or are they just allowed to run a so called 'service' to take people like us to the cleaners:mad:

Also SkyDSL is not high speed satellite access to Internet. It's a download accelerator for dialup, the Hardware can be done with a €50 PCI satelite TV card and regular dish + LNB.

Real Satellite two way internet is a lot faster and doesn't need the phone line. Though latency is around the 800ms + due to distance of satellite path.

They shouldn't be allowed the name "SkyDSL" either because it is nothing remotely like DSL in experience or technology and no connection to BSkyB's Sky broadcasting service.

Have you tried any of the new internet services being offered by the mobile companies? 3G, Vodafone, and 02 all offer wireless broadband. There have been many issues with these services, but they are a lot less expensive than the sky sat connections.

    OP,

Have a look at NWE, it will take 8 weeks, but they are a fairly good company

So Rural Services Ireland are a reseller of skyDSL.

It's a pity that they are useless because skyDSL is a fairly decent product.

IF you had dealt directly with skyDSL, the initial fee is alot smaller than what you paid, actually it's just the first month's payment and cost of postage of the free equipment, around 50 euro.

Just on the point of skyDSL not being allowed thier name, they're a German based company so I'm sure they couldn't give to ****s about BskyB, and rightly so.

Well of course they have a right to be called "skyDSL" but the "DSL" part is very misleading. SkyDSL is IMO a very poor value product for what it delivers. Better to cancel the eircom line and save the money and get either 3G/HSDPA or else 2 Way Satellite.
