Scope in a skirmish

Has anyone had a nice or even cheapo scope in a scimrmish and had the lens hit with a bb?

Did it crack it or ruin it or is this even possible or likely?

I've seen a number of the cheap clone reflex sights lenses smash when hit at close range with a BB. Never seen an optical scope lense break though. Getting a small bit of perspex and attching it in front of the lense will provide protection from breaks.

i've seen several lense covers been broken (CrazyRabbit has been through a few), but never an actual lense, I use an open reflex red dot on my p90, i cut a bit of perspex to sit in front of it, but it seems pretty solid and i think it could take a bb hit directly without the perspex.

    Yup...3 times now.

5mm thick perspex shatters when hit with a bb from less than 15 feet.

I don't know to test the theory that the lens would hold up better.

I'd advise getting see-through lens covers that can be repaired if smashed (piece of perspec and a Dremel :D )

I had Chinese hologhraphic reflex sight that cracked when it was hit. Was only a cheap one but I reckon you'd be ok if you got a decent one

Out in the wilderness. A place called Galway I think. I think that's also why he has so many airsoft guns...to protect him from all the wild creatures that roam those parts. I have nothing but respect for people like S.C.O.P.E who are living on the fringes of civilisation and making the perilous journey to Dublin every few weeks for a day of skirmishing. Hopefully we'll see him again soon and he hasn't been eaten by any tigers, or wild dogs.

if you want your scope you could go to an optician an order a polycarbonate lens from him (without magnification of course) and then you put it in front of your scope.
you can also order scope protecting lenses from wgc, basically its a plastic lens with a ris mount. let me have a look

    edit: here you go
    http://www.wgcshop.com/pcart/shopper.php?itm=FA-ACC-SSM
    http://www.wgcshop.com/pcart/shopper.php?itm=FA-ACC-SSL

    - if you have a mojji scope, they sell scope shields (type "scope shield" in the wgc search box)

Think 8mm will withstand 1J shots.

5mm polycarbonate would probably be thick enough, but 5mm perspex will shatter a lot easier

You can get a device to fit over the objective lens of a scope
that is a mesh like grill.

Its real purpose on real scopes it to stop sunlight reflecting off your
lens and giving your position away if your are a sniper or if your stalking
    while hunting.

It does not interfere with normal use of a scope and can be
used to protect the lens from BB strikes.

If I find a link to one I will post it. I cant remember where I saw them
for sale I was gonna get one for my real steel but then decided it would
be a very yuppy thing to do since I would only be shooting paper targets.

The link below show an example of what they look like
but obviously the price is crazy for a Leupold one you can
buy them for about 15 UKP on some sporting goods stores:

The trick is to have something with a little give, rigid and it will shatter.

I had a king arms red dot and it got hit by a bb and broke the front lense on it thankfully all i have to do is get a new lense and a very thick peice of plastic so it wont happen again :p. Id link the scope i had that broke but the network im on wont let me get onto any of the airsoft sites.

just tried this out get a PSP silicone screen protector and cut it to the size of the scope lens, its self adhivsive ,just took a few pot shots at one placed in front of a can slight dent on the protector bbs just bounced off , could be a cheap solution

does it obscure the view or change the magnification? Any warping etc could really throw off any kind of precision shooting or fast target acquisition.

there is only a slight dent ,have the protector in my hand almost perfect view through it , actuly suprised it worked ,ordering a scope on thursday well worth using might get the tinted protector to hide any light reflection

    Zombie thread reborn!

Im getting a lovely aug military soon, jing gong version, and the scope on it is worrying me as I'm going to be scirmishing soon, just waiting for a decent loadout, holster for pistols, mags for main etc.

I also have a 22mm scope on my m4, I'm wondering If anyone has had any further experience of scope lenses being hit and if they can take it?

I've so far been unable to find or cut any perspex (no relevant cutting tools), I'm willing to pay someone that has done it before to do it for me if they will, thanks.

I'm thinking 18mm diameter in 5mm thick and 31mm diameter in 1mm thick, this will allow the perspex to recess into my scope unseen!

So anyway, can a scope take a hit and has there been any more examples since the last post in this thread?

    Thanks again!

My red dot scope lasted all of 5 minutes. It got knocked over and cracked.

Oh well. I'll know better next time.

Nah, it's God's way of telling me to stop dicking around with percision shooting. - It's not going to happen.
Looks like time for plan B. Extend the G36C, and get a grenade launcher. Know anywhere I can get one.............
