    Formed in the Gulf of mexico and not moving very far.
    N at 6mph.
    Another texas soaking from this.Galveston island has had 3 inches and parts of louisiana has over 5 inches, more is expected.Dont think it will make it to minimal hurricane as dryer air on the west is weakening and also very close to landfall.

    Thats a surprise alright.There was a lot of dry air to its west which obviously subsided.Central pressure of 986mb just prior to landfall with 85mph in the NE quadrant of the eyewall or around the centre of circulation.Just shows you how these storms can develop quick in favourable conditions.

    Was only forecast to become tropical and not hurricane,still a lot of rain will fall from this.

    Humberto is the fastest developing storm near landfall in recorded history, it really wasn't expected to reach hurricane status, this is from the latest discussion;

    "BASED ON OPERATIONAL ESTIMATES...HUMBERTO STRENGTHENED FROM A 30 KT
    DEPRESSION AT 15Z YESTERDAY TO A 75 KT HURRICANE AT 09Z THIS
    MORNING...AN INCREASE OF 45 KT IN 18 HOURS. TO PUT THIS
    DEVELOPMENT IN PERSPECTIVE...NO TROPICAL CYCLONE IN THE HISTORICAL
    RECORD HAS EVER REACHED THIS INTENSITY AT A FASTER RATE NEAR
    LANDFALL. IT WOULD BE NICE TO KNOW...SOMEDAY...WHY THIS HAPPENED."

    In fact it has been clocked at 13 hrs from a TD to hurricane status.Apparently thunderstorms flared dramatically overnight to aid and fuel development.
    Unfortunately technology cannot forsee flaring up of storms and is why many people were caught unawares from this including the meteorologists and the unfortunate people in its path.
    Technology can measure intensity and forecast or predict a track with regards to tropical developments.

    If this storm was born a couple of hundred miles more south than actually where it was,this could have been far more devastating if keeping to the same track.
