Parking fines abroad?

I was in San Francisco for the summer and rented two different cars on two different occasions. Both times I got a parking ticket! I called today and was told both tickets ammount to $116 each! I don't particularly feel like parting with the money, since I have none!!! Has anyone had an experience of this before? The rental companies are Enterprise and Avis.

What do they do with these issues? Will they bill my credit card or even bother following it up?

    Any advice appreciated!

    Shane.

I'd imagine they would bill the credit card if they wish to chase it up.

You'll be entered on the terrorist watch list and get deported to Syria and tortured if you ever set foot in the country again. (Possibly even if you don't, the parking attendent SWAT team may abduct you from your bed as you sleep.) Don't mess with those crazy motherfúckers, pay your parking tickets!

OK, sorry. Personally I would pay the fine though, to avoid possible negative consquences, from your name going on a credit blacklist to even potential legal problems (e.g. if the rental company isn't liable and can get the police/city off their backs by simply naming the driver.)

Most likely, as BuffyBot says, the rental company will bill your credit card, probably adding an extra fine/interest/administration charge on top of the fine from the city if you don't pay up yourself.

This is the country that cuts foreign aid to countries with nationals who do not pay their NYC parking tickets. They are deadly serious about the parking tickets, these guys.

You did the crime, now do the time, pay the fine, etc.

Throw them into the bin and forget about them.

I've gotten speeding and parking fines abroad several times. The rental company will pass on your address details to the local police when they are looking for an address to issue the fine to. When you get the summons or fine, throw it into the bin and that will be the end of the issue.

AVIS bastards deducted €13 from my credit card for administration expenses releasing my address details to the police. The police can't take money from your cc without your permission.

Final words here, THROW IT INTO THE BIN.
