Comments on all streets appreciated, but what range do we assign villain here on the river? No reads at all I'm afraid

Party Poker - No Limit Hold'em Cash Game - $0.10/$0.25 Blinds - 4 Players - (LegoPoker Hand History Converter)

    SB: $42.80
    BB: $48.88
    Hero (UTG): $26.21
    BTN: $24.75

Preflop: Hero is dealt Qclubnormal.gif Qdiamondnormal.gif (4 Players)
Hero raises to $1.25, 2 folds, BB calls $1.00

    Flop: ($2.60) Jspadenormal.gif 5diamondnormal.gif 5heartnormal.gif (2 Players)
BB checks, Hero bets $2.00, BB calls $2.00

    Turn: ($6.60) 6diamondnormal.gif (2 Players)
BB checks, Hero bets $5.00, BB calls $5.00

    River: ($16.60) 8spadenormal.gif (2 Players)
    BB bets $18.00, Hero ???

Up until the river I thought I was taking a jack to value town. At this level, that action fits perfectly with a holding like jack-ten they regularly go broke on on a flop like this (Not to mention all superior jacks). Pocket jacks repops me pre flop, and he's surely not calling with a bare five pre flop, or pocket sixes or pocket eights on the flop (And turn in the latters case)? So what the heck does he have that suddenly shoves the river?

Easy fold? But what is he playing like this? I can't figure him out...The only thing I can think of is he flopped quads!?

    not for me.

ive seen this line at these stakes very often when they hit a monster and dont want to miss out on a river bet.

and you cant really assign him a range when youve no info whatsoever on him. a 25nl unknown could show up with all kinds of crap.

    i fold

it looks like 88 (or maybe 55), but who knows at this level.

    Mostly 5x c/minraise you somewhere ;)

yeha if you're beaten here its 88 for sure. but he can have AJ/KJ/TT or anything here. agree with the box that 5 goes for the c/mr somewhere in the hand

Jammer ask yourself one questionm if I was villain and took this line in the home game were 72 applies would u call? That river is an easy call but expect to be behind quads... lol

If you took this line I'd be beating you into the pot (Representing quads in the process, of course, so you'd just muck your hand...)

I did call incidentally, thought despite the usual strenght of the river over-shove at this level I was way ahead of his range and struggled to put him on a hand that beat me. He'd turned a set of sixes in the end, but I just wanted to make sure it wasn't a loose call as the line had completley confused me.

This is why i think datamining is so important even at this level, because youve no stats your forced into making a bad call for your stack, and in an average session your going to come up against 1-4 of these decisions against unknown if your not datamining alot. You also loose value in spots because you dont know hes a calling station etc and have to play cautiously. On the hand itself with no reads in think its hard to fold this one but as Mr.Plough said theres no point assigning a range to someone you have no stats on.

God I can't wait to get home and play on sites which I can datamine on. Stars is painful like that
