Analogue Cable: Crap Signal

Hey, I have analogue cable in my flat; I have tuned in as many channels as I can. I can't get Channel 4 at all, the reception is so bad. TV3 and TG4 and BBC 1 and 2 are unwatchable. Is there anything I can do? Can I call someone to come fix it or what would it require? Thanks.

Call the cable company NTL or corus or UPC whatever they are calling themselves this week. But if you call them they will charge you ! Think you are getting it for free right now !

It's illegal right? How is it there in the flat if nobody was paying for it

Because they leave it to charge the next resident. Called "puppy dog".

Analogue cable has always and always will be rubbish. When they get fully upgraded to BB & Digital, they will turn off analogue because it gives one poor channel in the space of 2 to 20 BB users or 6 to 10 Digital TV channels.

Can't agree there Watty. My analogue NTL is on a par with the Digital signal (Waterford). Here's a couple of screenshots (please remember that these are captured from a PC TV Card so quality will be degraded - but even at that..........):

I think UPC are degrading the signal on a number of the main channels to force people to switch to Digital, up until last year all of my Analog channels were perfect, now RTE 1 & 2, BBC 1,ITV and TV3 are just snowy pictures, I had the engineer around before you ask and he checked the signal strength coming in from the feed and it was fine, so he said they would get another engineer to check the main point out at the manhole cover with a mini tv that was 3 months ago and no improvement, I'm in the Lucan area btw.

Snake I have a niece living in an estate near the Liffey Valey in Lucan. Was up with her two weeks ago. She has only analogue and it was very clear.

Are you sure its analogue cable?, do you have any satellite stations on the feed, if not it may terrestrial stations being received by a communal aerial , where in the country is this?

If it is analogue cable try another TV, just in case your own has a bad/faulty VHF tuner
