Tax back in UK and Ireland help needed!

I have worked in the UK for the last since April and have earned roughly £14K after tax, im returning to Ireland and then going traveling for a year. I know I will be entitled to a tax refund but does anyone know roughly how much I would be entitled to? Are we talking £100 or £500 roughly?

Also I worked in Ireland till April, would I be entitled to a tax refund for the tax I paid Jan – April in Ireland as I won’t be working in Ireland again till next year?

    Thanks for any help!

    There are two issues here.

Firstly as you won't be working in Ireland again this year at the end of the year you can file a tax return (Form 12) reclaiming your tax up to the limit of your unused credits related to how much PAYE was paid.

assuming you are not married for 2007 your credits are 3520. From ireland to April 1173 will have been applied in credits and the balance taxed at the standard rate. You can apply to have your full credits applied to this period and the balance of tax refunded up to the credit threshold or tax paid whichever is lower.
A refund for UK tax paid is only available on income that has been taxed in both jurisdictions. i.e income taxed in ireland and the UK a credit is available in the country which has primary taxing rights for the doubly taxed income (subject to effective rate calculations) This doesn't apply to you as Jan to April you suffered Irish tax on Irish income and May- December you suffered UK tax on UK Income.

Thnaks Setanta, although I don't know if I quite follow.
I understand I can reclaim my Irish paid tax at the end of the year, but don't understand all this double tax info.

Is it worth my while paying an account or somebody like that to do this? Or maybe just to do it all through Taxback.com

What i need to know is roughly how much would i be entitled to?

To be honest I don't know I haven't seen your P60 or your UK Statement of accounts. If taxback says 1.5K why don't you just go through them?
