Should I get a PSP or a DS Lite?

Lately I've been thinking of getting a console or hand held gaming thingamybob. I'm torn between the PSP and the DS. Or should I just get a proper console like the wii or the xbox?

I like nice quiet girly games where zombies don't jump out and scare the living daylights out of me. I also enjoy stuff like Tekken, Toshinden, Crazy Taxi etc.(Do they still even make these games? Man, I'm old)

I haven't played in about 10 years since I was a kid. Right now I'm just playing games on my phone. What I need to know is what does one do better than the other. Bear in mind, I'm not very technically minded!:D

Hmmm, really depends where you how ,uch/where you wanna use it.

I got my DS with great ideas of playing it on the bus or in bed all the time, but that rarely happens. I play my 360 a lot more. Perhaps if it was my only console things would be different.

    Handheld

The PSP really is more powerfull, with what i feel is a greater selection of "better games". Anything I've picked up for the DS, I've either been dissapointed with the game itself or the graphical limitations of the console. A lot of the games only use the touch screen / Duel screens simply because its expected of them.
Although the majority train of though seems to be the DS is more "fun", I found this to be the case for the PSP. Price wise the DS wins over the PSP, but outta the box you have a lot more multimedia functionality with sony.

    Console

Ehhh......I went with the 360 simply because it was the first out, even though I was a staunch sony fanboy before hand. I couldn't be happier with my choice. First of all its cheaper than the PS3 which could be a major factor for most people. Statisticaly the PS3 is more powerfull, but at the moment you aren't really seeing too much diffrence between the two. Most importantly, games. From my point of view the 360 has a much larger, more diverse selection of games, with enough titles that most people would be able to find something they like. The PS3 however hasn't had the same time to build up a library, so keep that in mind. Now that the 360 Elite is out now and with the upcoming release of the new chips, 2nd hand 360 prices are rock bottom.

There's still alot to be said for the PS2, hundreds of titles to choose from with mre still being added, cheap as chips, and it still gets the job done graphically. Okami, Odin sphere, FF12 anyone?

The wii? The same points that I applied to the DS I can apply to the wii. No, just no. But if you are on a budget........

    So, overall I'd recomend the 360, then the PS3, then a PS2. Xbox->PSP->DS->Wii.

get the DS if you want cool games with a lot of replay value.

get the PSP if you want to do extra "stuff" (browse the web, hax0r it to emulate old consoles, be an mp3/video player.. etc.). there are good games for the PSP, but the numbers are completely overshadowed by the sheer number of good titles on the DS. but then the DS is a purist machine, as in it plays games and sin é.

there is a web browser for DS seperate, but it's nice to have an integrated system on the device.

If you want girly fun games get a DS. It has some very addictive quirky games out for it. The PSP on the other hand goes for more realistic games most of which involve guns or cars. Both are very good at what they do.

The DS can do all that now pretty well too, remember? ;)

If you want fun, get a DS.

If you want a relatively cheap multimedia player get a PSP.

Oh and coming to the Nintendo forumn asking people to choose between a DS and a PSP will invariably result in you buying a DS and possibly a Wii :)

Buy a PSP, while I don't have one and have a DS lite, if its the good old heady days of the PSone you hanker after, the PSP is the one you want, plenty of good updates of classic franchises couples with some really nice retro compilations, like the Capcom and konami ones, not to mention sweet games like Ghosts and Goblins.

Wait a little while if the whole homebrew doesn't impress, get the new improved edition of the PSP, due out shortly, better battery life and a tad lighter.

I have to say I prefer the DS to the PSP, mainly for the quirky games that Nintendo do best. There's Zelda coming out for it soon which is guaranteed to be excellent, if you haven't played a Zelda game before you owe it to yourself! Also, there are a couple of Zelda games for the Gameboy Advance which can be played on the DS too... GBA games can be got very cheaply now and a lot are quite good! While I've only had a loan of the PSP, I've been impressed with it as a machine, but just can't help feeling like all you can buy for it is ports of PS2 games, your standard run-of-the-mill stuff which seems to please the masses. There are lots of good ones, but they're just not for me.

I have both a DS and a PSP, but it's the DS I play consistently over the PSP.

I dunno why people say it like it's an insult, but the DS really is the more 'fun' of the two. Playing the PSP is more of a labour than anything else, years after I've bought it i'm still worried I'll break it every time I turn it on.

In the end though, you should make your decision based on what games you like, so research that end and make your decision. Don't rely on fanboys to espouse the virtues of either. (Myself included :p)

And perhaps a SNES. And an N64.

A psp is only worthwhile if you can hack it. Otherwise its pretty useless. I'm not biased, i have both a psp and a DS.
Psp wins for emulation and video etc, DS wins for games

Or you could emulate both these consoles on a PSP :D

I have a PSP and a DS and tbh I use both about the same. However, I tend to use the PSP more for movies and messing around then for games as the DS is certainly more fun for gaming.

edit: just realised I basically repeated the post above mine but I don't care :)

I have both, but I had the PSP for a longer amount of time and in all fairness I prefer the PSP, but it only because it has the games I like. Since your a girl and you like girly friendly games, go for the DS. But I can't go without Grand Theft Auto, Metal Gear Solid or Pro Evo.

I thought Ultimate Ghost n' Goblins was quite average and I usually love the Gn'G games.

I'd go for the DS. Better selection of better games that usually give you a completely different gaming experience than the console counterparts. The PSP on the other hand really just gives you the same gaming experience as the PS2 except in handheld form. My DS gets used a lot for gaming while the PSP hardly ever gets used and when it does it's as an awkward MP3 player. The battery life is also a big factor in me not playing it as much.

Either can I. That would be why I have a ps2.

If I bought a PSP, it would be just more of the same. What's the point? If I want GTA, I'll play it in all its glory on a nice big tv.

As someone who has really grown tired of the same genres over and over, especially with the likes of Sony consoles, the DS is very refreshing.
