Bedroom Blues

    Hi,

i've been playing guitar for 20 years and have never really played in a band but always wanted to. I play mostly blues but can take a stab at anything. I'm not bad but not as good as i should be for 20 years practice !

Anyway, would love to meet some like minded bedroom players who would like to get together and jam and take that first step towards getting a bit more serious about their playing and perhaps eventually even playing a gig or two.

If blues isn't your thing don't worry, i'm happy to try anything !
I'm in Dublin and am 36.

Also happy to hear advice from the giggers out there on how to get started,

    cheers

    Osh

Its hard to get from bedroom into gigging, audiences have expectations (first possible reason to stay in bed) and the bedroom artist is not familiar with or usually confident enough to handle public performance and 'grab' an audience. Having said that when it works out its great - but I find consistency hard to achieve when performing, I'm off (not enough practice, lack of confidence/hating my material, hating audiences, bitchy competition with other artists) its truly a tough business to be in and hard to be 'true' through it all. 20 years playing myself with mixed results to date. Finding a band is tough here too, you get a call tell them what your 'into' , send them a soundfile or two , hear nothing back and then give up and go it alone again.
best to see someone play live and then approach- and luck might play a hand.
so get great ~(your best) material ready and try it out at songwriter nights in town.

    Hi Gav,

cheers for that, makes a lot of sense.

I saw a couple of guys in Donegal playing acoustic blues in the corner of a local and they were great ! I though i could definitely do that so i'm not necessarily looking for a band just to play with others and maybe do something local like those guys.

The songwriters nights / open mic nights sound good, could you recommend some ? Would like go along initially just to see what the craic is and see what happens from there, sounds like a good place to start anyway.

    thanks !
