    Hi Guys,

We were painting the apartment at the weekend and some paint got onto our couches (Wont come off). Does anyone know if we can claim off the contents insurance and if we do will our premium rise loads (Its only €12 a month at the moment) ?

All depends on whether you have accidental damage cover on your contents policy. Most policies will include this but not all. Your Insurers will want to know what steps you have taken to clean up the accident.

Talk to your broker, if you have one.

If you have addidental damage cover then you should be ok. It is likely however that you will incur an excess (this will be detailed in your policy schedule) and it is likely also that you will lose any no claims discount you have earned (yes this is available on many house policies) resulting in an increase in premium.

It may be worth calling your insurer to check what it's likely to cost you over the next 12 months if you claim as this may be more than the payout.

There are loads of dried-on paint removal products on the market for all types of household paint. Unless the material is very delicate or there is an excess amount spilled on it, it shouldn't be too hard to remove. Certainly cheaper than a possible rate rise with the insurance...
