Spider question

    Hi all,
    any experts on spiders out there? I took this picture in the garden recently of a beautiful spider in (EDIT) His/her web. however on examining it in close up, there is something sticking out of it.

    That's a male Garden spider.

    AFIK they don't have wedding tackle in the traditional sense - they use palps at the front near the head to reproduce.

    You have some really good eye sight, personally i wouldn't get that close to even notice his little spider willy :D

    A colleague has suggested it might be a parasitic worm attached to the spider. Guess its possible. Even more gross than the willy theory?
