I only have a free to air receiver, currently receiving astra2. I'm not subscribed to any service such as NTL or SKY.

When the rugby started last Friday I thought I was elected when it came up on ITV1, Saturday morning too I think the Wales game was on. But Sunday came and the rugby was moved onto ITV4 which I cant see on astra2.

Anyone know if theres a channel out there showing it on satellite FTA?

You'll need to rescan channels on your receiver, as you should be able to receive ITV4 (it's on Astra 2D like all other ITV channels).

Maybe scan after 7pm, as ITV4 may not "tune in" when it's off air on some boxes.

if you have a sky box you should be able to view itv4 on channel 120 without a card.

If you cannot do the following
    press services
    press 4 (system setup)
    press 4 (add channels)

    input the following
    freq 10758
    Polarisation v
    symbol rate 22
    fec 5/6
highlight find channels and press select

you will see channels listed, highlight the ones you want and press yellow to place a tick besides them, when finished press select

now exit out of the menus
    and press services again
    press 6 other channels
    highlight itv4 and press select.

    hope that helps.

    Yep, as Steveon says.

    I should've been more elaborate.

I was assuming your box was a standard FTA, and you should do an Auto Scan with Network Search (NIT) ON, so that it'll find frequencies it doesn't have pre-programmed already.

Or, just scan (or add if not already listed) the frequency posted by steveon (10758, V, Symbol 22000)

    Thanks lads,

I've got a ferguson free to air box, bought it from satellite.ie, no probs.

Anyway, I went in and did a multi-search (astra 2, 1 and hotbird) also selecting NIT on and it spent 10 mins scanning channels in, but then after saving data, I found the old setup remained, no channels had been overwritten in a new order and no new channels had appeared.

Also when I bought the gear I just searched under Astra 2 thinking a dish couldnt pick up more than 1 satellite without being moved but am I right in now thinking that Astra 1 will be received without moving the dish?? Hotbird didnt seem to want to be read.

Astra 1 and Astra 2 are in different orbital positions. Your dish would need to be moved to pick up channels on that.

Usually, if channels found are already on the box, they're ignored. New channels usually end up at the end of the channel list.

There are 2 birds you can receive from - Astra 2 and Eurobird. Some FTA boxes have them both as one position, though I've seen others that list both seperately, and may need to be tuned seperately.

Anyway, this is irrelevant, as ITV4 is on Astra 2, which you have searched.

Manually scan that single frequency posted by Steveon. If the frequency isn't listed under Astra 2, add it and then scan it

Do you mean without moving the dish? Havent seen any mention of eurobird on any of the setup menus for the receiver. I'm totally new to this but got the dish and receiver working handy enough a few weeks ago. I havent read any mags or anything so dont really have a clue whats out there beyond the clouds.

Whats the differ between Astra 2 and Astra 2D?

Astra 2 constellation consists of Astra 2A, 2B and 2D. Astra 2C, which was stationed at 19E for a long while, is on it's way to join the other Astra 2's, if it's not there already. Eurobird is close by too, and can be received from same dish without moving it.

Astra 2D has a tighter beam than the others, beam focused primarily over UK and Ireland.

At The Races hasn't worked for me without a Sky subscription for some time now. And the question about subscribing to Setanta without Sky, yes you can.
