    Hi all,

I am thinking of getting sky after I move house in the coming weeks.
My question is, is it worth getting the works at I think €68 per month?

    I was offered:

    • Sky+ incl installation for €149.00
    • Every package i.e. the works is €68 per month although €34 for months 1&2
    • Multiroom is €15 per month per room - this is I assume separate box and card

What would you guys recommend? Nobody probably needs the works just more exercise for my thumb!:D

    Thanks

Also is there anywhere that has a comprehensive list of the channels available?

I would be looking to get free2air channels from Germany, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Austria etc. but not sure if Sky are offering said channels.

Any of you guys have more than one satellite for different free2air channels?

I have issues paying for things by direct debit or giving out credit card details, is there another way to pay for sky?

You have to pay Sky by either direct debit or credit card.Sorry but as far as i know it's the only options they provide.

The sky minidish isn't strong enough to pick up a lot of the channels you'd like.while you will pick up some prepare to be sorely disappointed. You'll have to tune in some channels manually(ITV 1-4 & BBC3-4).Instructions on how to do that are readily available on the internet.

Your list of channels is there.

Sky+ is good if you know you won't be round to see a program. (Then again with sky chances are it'll be repeated bout 100 times the following month anyways). SMS record service & online service with sky anytime are handy when you forget to add recording schedules.
If there are more than 1 in the house then definitely multiroom is the best, to avoid "program clashes".

That said however for all the channels there is literally nothing on most of the time, unless you're into documentaries, sport or the kiddies channels.

For FTA channels, you can look back on previous threads, but consensus seems that something like the LIDL FTV box seems good.
If you go to Lyngsat.com or wildsat.com that will give a very detailed listing of channels available for pickup.

Fraid the folks in sky appear to have a thing about getting money from customers & seem to insist on DD. I have the top package but will be reducing it now that sky have shed their 15 euro recording facility charge if you have sky+ without the premium package.

    Thanks for the info lads!

Lady on the phone 'explained' how the phoneline was necessary to talk to sky and bounce the signal from my dish to their sat.

I assume it's possible to get a good satellite dish and use it instead of the minidish?

I dislike being tied into a contract for 12 months - prefer freedom of choice!:D

A person told me recently that he was able to pay a full year subscription up front, though I'm not sure if it's true or not.

err the bouncing of the signals back to the sat is a bit of crosswires. the sky box dials out to Sky just to let them know all is well and connected.

in some cases (they are rare) you can arrange to pay Sky a year in advance. they open an account for you and take the debit from that. if the prices go up they ask you to pay the difference. this can require some persuasion though.

you can get better dishes than the mini dish, but it do fine.

    Thanks Conax!

My gf is slovak and 'we' read 'she' would like to get slovak, german and czech channels - I'm assuming it's a 'simple' case of get the right dish or a dish and point it to the right satellite?
