Bunratty for New Years

I have a group of friends coming in for a week from the US and they have picked Bunratty as the place to stay for New Years. Is there actually anything there worth seeing on New Years or would they be better off driving to Dublin or Cork?

I have to confess Bunratty doesn't spring to mind on a list of cool places to go for New Years but maybe I'm wrong....

    Thanks

PS: They are 5 guys in their early 20s!

is there anywhere where there's something to see on New Years?

    Pub - pints - locko

that's all new years and any 'celebration'/event/landmark date is about, Bunratty wouldn't spring to mind as a party town for the aforementioned locko-edness.

How about Kilkenny - big castle like Bunratty and good nightlife city-town

lol thats what I was thinking really - the best it gets in Cork is some 'unique' fireworks. I didn't know if there was a big countdown thing somewhere (I am usually overseas for New Years myself).

I'll do a bit of googling I suppose.
