    BMWs M70 engine(5.4 litre V12 as fitted to the E32 750i and E31 850CSi) can be put into the engine bay of an E30. So a V8 should have no problems going under the bonnet of an E30.

    Yeah a V8 should fit no prob;

    Check out the link below, a V6 Alfa engine fitted to an E30 here in Ireland

    it fits easy just adjust the engine mounts.... all the tuner company's are doing it now... ruins the e30 imo

    Sorry to hear the engine died. How bad a state is it in? PM if you are interested in getting rid of it.

    A V8 takes up less space than a straight 6.

    OP why not just put in one of BMW's newer straight 6's into your E30?

    The M50B25 is a common engine conversion(that engine is the 24V 2.5 engine(with 192 bhp) that came when they introduced the E36) for an E30.

    Or maybe the M54B30 with 231 bhp(01-05 530i, 330i/Ci)? Or better still the S30B30(original E36 M3 engine) with 286 bhp?

    As for putting in a non BMW engine, well that is just about the most ridiculous thing you could do. Thats like saying I like driving a BMWs so long as there is as little to do as possible with BMW when I'm driving it.

    Like that E30 with the V6, its an insult to BMW's M division, puitting an Alfa(I hope it starts, if can do that much it will have achieved a lot) engine into it, and then painting the car in BMW's M colours?
