tis a good one allright...Saipan would probably rate as one of the highest in my opinion I'd guess....or would michelle smith de bruin outdo it?

It would have to be Saipan and the Irish "football civil war".

The betting scam lads deserve an award for ingenuity though. That and a prison sentence.

Mostly political though, great sporting moments in my book would be:

Dennis Taylor winning the world title

    Jordans 1-2 in Belgium

    Ireland beating England in 1988

Ireland beating England in Croke Park

The penalties in the Italian World Cup

    Ronnie Delaney

Etc. Etc. Moments that are remembered for the sporting achievement.

some great moments there allright...Sonia would have to get in there though somewhere... but I think the rte thing was more shocking moments that rocked Irish sport rather than great moments.

I'd add all hurling finals between '94 and '98.

For individual brilliance BoD's hat-trick against France in '99

The win against Holland in Lansdowne which (essentially) qualified us for 2002 World Cup

Eddie Irvine's whole 99 season in the F1 - if ever a man was robbed of a title it was him

Beating Italy in the '94 World Cup in the Giants Stadium

These are moments that shook Irish sport though. Not necessarily good things generally. Just look through the list.

It's basically the 20 most controversial moments in Irish sport rather than best moments.

It think we all understand that. But it is interesting to remember the good times to.

Gotta agree with you regarding the Dennis Taylor/Steve Davis epic. In my opinion, the best sporting moment of all time, by a mile.
