I'm going to be in Chicago for 5 nights mid-late October. I've been to the city before so I was wondering if there are any good day trips out of the city to surrounding towns/cities. I have broad interests so I'm game for pretty much anything. I'll have to use the bus/train. From doing a google search most of the trips on offer appear to be within the city.

    Thanks,
    Anthony

Thanks for reply. I suspected there wouldn't be much in the way of day trips out of Chicago. I see that Milwaukee is a 90min train ride from Chicago so I'll probably head there for a day.

im so jealous, i miss chicago so much. i spent a semester there but rarely left the city. i know that there's a six flags out of the city though so if you're into theme parks you should definitely do that. also, thats a great time to go to a pumpkin farm! there are a good few around, and it's the perfect time of year, i went around the same time, just before halloween. check out pickyourown.com and then search for chicago IL. you can go through the orchards picking all the different types of apples, then there are raspberry patches, and pumpkin patches too, and they have quaint little shops that seel their own honey/popcorn/different things. its a really cute fun day out.

didn't really leave the city when i was there during the summer but like the above poster mentioned theres a six flags, bout a 1hr journey out of town on the metro and theres a huge outlet mall nearby where lots of shopping can be done. also has an arcade and an ice-rink. you'd easily make a day out of that. theres also a comedy club called second city in one of the suburbs not too far from the city, u can get the regular cta train there. they have a main show every tuesday and some of the greats like john belushi started out there. hope that helps
