or small town where one could stay for a night or two?

Something along the lines of Doolin ...just not Doolin :D

Got two weeks of of minding the dogs on my own coming up (wife is temporarily deserting me) and due to other circumstances I can't really take off for the whole time, just a max of two/three nights.

Could sort of do with a bit of a pub break in nice scenery. Don't really want to travel too far either, so the "alternative Doolin" should be somewhere between Galway and Letterkenny - ish.

Proper towns and town centres are out because of the dogs and staying somewhere in the wilderness on me own is boring ...so a pub (or two) nearby would be welcome.

Campsite is not a must (will be fine without for that short period) but a nice, safe and quiet place to stay is (a little corner in a country pub car-park will do fine, landlord permitting)

    Right!

    Suggestions, please :D

How about the likes of the marina in Portumna. Water/Toilets on site, Nice spot with a bit of activity. Five minutes walk will get you to the pub. I like the spots along by the Shannon, ie. Banagher, Shannonbridge where there's always ample parking and a good pub life.

    Yeees ...tempting.

A waterway is a distinct possibility.

There are loads of nice places down by Enniskillen.

You can pull up at the Lakeland Forum, there are always a few campers there. There is fresh water available and a leisure centre with toilets.

The JD Wetherspoons (formerly The Vintage) overlooks the spot and Enniskillen and Fermanagh has some of the best scenery in Ireland.

Spent last weekend up on Cauldaff (Just outside town). Great place - Free parking, pub straight across the road, toilet facilities and sandy beach right behind you. Could you ask for more!!

Try Narin near Glenties in Donegal. A bit quiet this time of year but nice pubs. Spectacular beaches. Facilities quite good. Harvest festival in Glenties for the next couple of days might be a nice distraction during day.
    ;)
