I'm assuming the Mal is IKC reg, yes?

OK, first things first, the pup can't go into the ring until its 6 mths old.

Get friendly with your breeder, and if he/she shows her stock ask her to montor you.
If she doesn't show her own stock, why not?

Join your breed club if you're not a member already.

Enquire with the breed club about any ring craft classes they may know about. If you're not too far from Cloghran, the IKC run ring craft classes there on Tues evenings. GIve them a ring for more info.

Until the pup is old enough to go in to the ring, go to shows *without* the pup (under rules you should'nt take a dog that's not entered on the day). Watch what goes on in the ring, chat to the Mal exhibitors and ask questions, questions, questions. Don't be afraid to ask any questions you need answeering, no matter how stupid you may think they are. The majority will be only too delighted to answer your questions, help you with anything, talk about their dogs and demonstrate things you might not understand.

Ask as many people as you can to handle the dog at home and out on walks. The sooner the pup gets used to being handled (gently) by strangers the better.

"Raising A Champion" by A. Meredith John & Carole L Richards, is a brilliant book and well worth buying.

Best of luck, and any Q's don't hesitate to ask ;)

First of all, your pup needs to have it's papers registered with the Irish Kennel Club. Check out the Irish Kennel club for available show dates. Please note their is a minimum age to show. Contact the Kennel Club for further details and shows you can register for.
