Downloaded trial version of C A as when I clicked on AVG it just won't download. Uninstalled C A when I noticed couldn't get access to Hotmail or ntlworld mail. Still no access.

Some AV programs that provide POP3 mail protection, install their own email scanner. usually this involves taking the settings from your configured email accounts and having the email software (outlook express etc) send and collect from teh antivirus software.

check your email settings and see if they have been chagned to something like 127.0.0.1 . you may need to re-enter your server settings etc.

Another possibility is that the AV software acted as a proxy for port 110 (pop3 port). try to telnet to the mail server on port 110 - not definite proof as some servers wont allow telnet sessions to log on.

Is this just with a 3rd party email package (outlook , outlook express or thunderbord) or are you talking about direct access (www.hotmail.com etc).

Out of curiosity why wouldnt avg download ? are you on a network or a standalone pc ? are you behind a firewall other than windows built in firewall - or a linux configured firewall ?
