    Hi ednwireland,

Just to let you know that there are new requirements for getting the grant for WPB,

    "New Requirements for Biomass Boilers
    • All biomass boiler installations which are grant
aided under Phase II will require the provision of
bulk storage. The minimum requirement will be 4
tonnes or 6.5 cubic metres of storage.
    • All biomass boiler installations will require a
buffer heat store / accumulation tank with a
capacity of 65 litres per kW of rated boiler output,
up to a maximum 1500 litres. This will ensure
proper boiler sizing relative to the demand of the
house. In addition it will allow the boiler to
operate at maximum efficiency for a longer
period and reduce the frequency of boiler cycling.
    • A consultation document is being prepared with
regard to prEN15270 and its adoption as a
requirement for boilers registered under the
Greener Homes Scheme. There will be more
    information to follow in October."

    Musha,

These are only proposed requirements. The buffer tank requirement does not make sense on certain boilers in the Irish market and SEI have got a long list of complaints from various suppliers today and yesterday. There may be some changes on this. Some boilers on the Irish market are self modulating, this facility negates the need for a buffer tank.

What SEI are essentially saying is that a customer will have to spend an extra 2K on a tank that offers no extra benefit to their system if they have a self modulating boiler. This requirement was not thought out fully by SEI.

Interesting times ahead. No doubt the purse strings have been tightened on SEI by the looks of it.

luckily i'm only looking for a stove but need to get a chimney relined and am now wondering whether or not to go ahead with htis on the basis that i'll get the grant i may wait until october to buy and wait and see what the grant forms throw up before i even start. cant understand stopping this in september its certainly when i start thinking about heating systems the way this seems to be going i'll be buying a log burner (back to square one didnt want to do this as its a bit inconvenient lighting a log fire very morning for my office)

You should be fine with a stove. There wont be any changes from what I hear.

SEI are supposed to release full details on October 1st.

The SEI have ran out of funds for Phase 1 of the grant scheme, they budgeted for 10,000 and received 16,000 applications. They will have to wait until the offer letters expire so they can free up the commitment so far, so anybody who has a letter of offer might not get the grant if they let it expire.
You can however change the details of the offer supplier or product of the same application if you find it cheaper for yourself
