Hey, just wondering if there's a problem with leaving a laptop on for a long period of time? Like there have been days where i have laptop on for 2 days straight or so, plugged in all the time...

doubt that would be a problem, as long as its not on a carpet

Depends what the laptop was doing, and on the laptop itself.

If you were running a demanding game on a powerful laptop, it would be a problem.

Otherwise, I doubt it, as long as the ventilation was good.

I have an older HP Pavillion Pentium 4 that acts as a media center/games machine. It's hooked up to my projector, so between games, music, TV and DVDs I would have it switched on for days on end.

It is very well ventilated, though, and I do set it to go into standby mode after 4-6 hours of non-use.

Its not doing your battery any favours by leaving it plugged in for two days. If your going to do this I'd remove the bettery and run solely from the mains power.

thats true for laptops about 5 years old

modern batteries will last longer if you keep them fully charged

    i run my laptop 24/7
i know the battery will eventually degrade because of this, but in the end its only a replacement battery.
i use a cooling station when im at home and have the laptop on all the time.

    never seen a problem yet.

I always have my laptop on day after day and it always works fine. I did have it on the floor on the carpet and it used to turn off and i didnt know why and then i realised the fans were getting covered so i think laptops can last to be on day after day if you keep the fan clear and the laptop cool

My brother left his dell laptop on for approx 20 hours a day for two years and it was only recently that he had to get the lamp replaced because of it.He connected it to the mains and hence the battery is still pretty strong
